TTT #317| Books Set In Boarding Schools I Want to Read

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is books set in X, so we get to choose. One of my favorite settings is a boarding school, so today I’m talking about ten books set in boarding schools that I want to read!

Kings of Quarantine – Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

Kings of Quarantine is a book I got for Christmas last year and I still haven’t read. The concept is really interesting, but I still haven’t been sure if I’m ready to read about the pandemic. This author duo is amazing, because the books I’ve read in the Zodiac Academy series are ones I’ve loved. So I do need to read this one soon.

All These Beautiful Strangers – Elizabeth Klehfoth

Our main character’s dark family past follows her everywhere, but she’s hoping for a new beginning at her new school. Add a secret society and more family secrets and I have a feeling this book will be one I can’t put down.

The School for Good and Evil – Soman Chainani

I keep saying I don’t read enough middle grade and I haven’t changed that much this year, haha. The School for Good and Evil is now also a movie on Netflix. I’m someone who needs to read the book before watching, so it’s time to get this off of my TBR. Apparently children are chosen each year for this school? I need to know more.

We Set the Dark on Fire – Tehlor Kay Mejia

At this school girls are trained for one of two positions in their polarized society. They either run their husband’s household or raise his children. We know our main character is going to have something go wrong or fight against this position. I’ve heard great things about We Set the Dark on Fire.

Slayer – Kiersten White

I’m a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, so a book that takes place at the Watcher’s Academy. Our main character is training as a guide for Slayers. I can’t wait to see what the author does with a story in this world.

The Society for Soulless Girls – Laura Steven

The Society for Soulless Girls is a YA thriller with a supernatural twist. Laura Steven wrote one of my favorite book, The Exact Opposite of Okay, and I’m shocked I still haven’t read this. A boarding school opened ten years after a tragic event took place that closed its doors.

Plain Bad Heroines – Emily M. Danforth

Plain Bad Heroines is a gothic historical fiction and takes place 100 years after the school closes when a book about the school is released. This inspires a controversial horror film adaptation. I don’t know much more than that and that it’s a big book. Sounds like the perfect story for a rainy day.

A Lesson in Vengeance – Victoria Lee

I love witchy books, so when I heard about A Lesson in Vengeance I was intrigued. There have been some mixed reviews about this one, but I still want to read it myself. This is a thriller and I hope to be kept on the edge of my seat.

Hunting November – Adriana Mather

I read the first book in this duology, Killing November, in September 2021. Killing November was a book I really enjoyed and had some good twists and turns. This boarding school was off the grid and trains its students to become assassins and spies. So you can say it’s rough. Hunting November takes place a few weeks later and has our main character trying to find her father before enemies find her. How have I not read this yet?!?

The Fixer – Jennifer Lynn Barnes

So I’m not sure if Hardwicke Academy is a boarding school or just a private one, but The Fixer sounds like a book right up my alley. It kind of reminds me of Scandal, because our main character seems to solve her rich classmates’ problems. I know Isabelle loved this book.
