We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Book Titles That Would Make Great Newspaper Headlines. It sounds like a fun topic but also pretty difficult. Let’s see which books I could find!
1. The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind – Jackson Ford
I immediately thought of this book! What a headline that would be haha. If we’re getting an apocalypse, this just might be a headline early on.
2. My Roommate is a Vampire – Jenna Levine
I can totally see this as the headline for a column. And maybe it’s not a literal vampire but someone who sucks the energy out of you or something. That might already be an actual headline somewhere already!
3. They’re Watching You – Chelsea Ichaso
Another one that proceed an apocalypse, but also one that might already be an actual headline. A lot of people are scared of being monitored by the government so I think this might be a fitting headline.
4. Portrait of a Thief – Grace D. Li
An in-depth article about a thief after some grand theft. I’m envisioning something like the Six of Crows heist or like my favorite movie ever; Ocean’s Eleven.
5. A Fatal Crossing – Tom Hindle
This might be a bit dark but this could’ve been a headline about the Titan not too long ago. As that was for sure a fatal crossing. And I’m sure there are a lot more instances where this could be a fitting headline (unfortunately).
6. Last Night at the Telegraph Club – Malinda Lo
This somehow really felt like a headline. Maybe it’s also because telegraph sounds like an actual Dutch newspaper (the Telegraaf). I’m not sure what would’ve happened for this to be a headline, maybe a murder at the ‘telegraph club’?
7. Scammed – Kristen Simmons
With so many online and telephone schemes this has probably already been multiple headlines. I’ve been telling my parents, especially my mom, to not trust anyone basically. My mom has taken this really seriously and even called a non-profit to make sure the person trying to collect money was legit haha.
8. A Thousand Fires – Shannon Price
With all these wildfires everywhere this could’ve been a headline to sum up the summer. The South of Europe has seen a lot of wildfires as did North America. And I’m sure I’m not even aware of wildfires in other continents!
9. Perfectly Preventable Deaths – Deirdre Sullivan
This could be the headline almost every day unfortunately. It makes me so sad and mad that there are people being killed in manners that seem super preventable. And yes that might make this a ‘political’ pick but I think we need to keep on standing up to injustice.
10. Missing, Presumed Dead – Emma Berquist
Another dark one, another one that could be a daily headline. Especially with multiple wars going on currently and with all these natural disasters this year. The amount of missing people is usually huge and unfortunately a lot of them are already dead.
Those were my picks for this week’s topic. What do you think of my picks? What would you have chosen? I would love to hear from you in the comments down below!
A great list. I agree that they would make great headlines unfortunately! It’s so sad what is happening in the world at the moment.
Have a great week!

A Fatal Crossing is a great choice, so is Scammed.

Mr Roommate Is A Vampire- now that would be an attention getting headline! And ooh Telegraph Club- loved that!

I enjoyed this week’s topic too but agree it was difficult. Considering popularity of such stories these days, “Scammed” definitely works for a news headline.

These are all great! They would all grab my attention for sure.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
