TTT #275| 2023 Debut Books I’m Excited About

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is 2023 Debut Books I’m Excited About. I’m not always good at knowing when a book is an author’s debut, so I definitely had to research this post a bit more, but here are ten 2023 debuts I’m excited about!

Playing for Keeps – Tristen Crone

I stumbled upon this author on Twitter and Playing for Keeps sounds like everything I need in a book. This is grumpy/sunshine, has a plussize character, and characters who enjoy boardgames.

Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute – Talia Hibbert

So this isn’t an author debut, but an author trying a different age group when writing. Talia Hibbert is known for her adult romances, but with Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute she’s entering the world of YA. Ex best friends to rivals to lovers? This book sounds so cute!

The Neighbor Favor – Kristina Forest

Kristina Forest has written YA books, but The Neighbor Favor is her first adult romance book. The Neighbor Favor has a bookworm and an author. I love books where characters love books one way or another. I’ll definitely be picking this up.

The Fraud Squad – Kayla Zhao

Our main character will do anything to write for a high society magazine, but to get there she may just lose herself. I have a feeling that this is going to have lots of drama and intrigue. Sounds like a book I’ll love.

They Hate Each Other – Amanda Woody

Fake dating is my favorite trope and They Hate Each Other has this trope. The two main characters fake date, so they can eventually break up and show their friends they’re not a match. We all know that this probably won’t go as planned and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

Blood Debts – Terry J. Benton-Walker

Blood Debts is a fantasy debut that sounds truly amazing. A murder, family betrayal, curses, and magic. All elements I truly love. I have an eARC of Blood Debts and I need to dive in soon!

The Black Queen – Jumata Emill

The Black Queen sounds like a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Especially this line in the synopsis caught my attention: “Everyone loved Nova. And sometimes, love is exactly what gets you killed.

Text Appeal – Amber Roberts

Our coder has something embarrassing happen that puts her out of a job. So until she can find the job for her she starts sexting to make some money. I have a feeling she’s going to end up meaning more to one of these clients than she originally wanted to.

Forget Me Not – Julie Soto

An ambitious wedding planner has to work with her grumpy ex florist and she’s the one who broke his heart. I have a feeling there will be lots of drama, but hopefully also an amazing happily ever after!

If Tomorrow Doesn’t Come – Jen St. Jude

Just reading that this book is We Are Okay meets They Both Die at the End makes it clear this is going to be a very emotional read. There are only 9 days left in the world and both characters are dealing with big things. I’ll have the tissues ready when I pick this one up.

  1. I had several books on my TBR list that I thought were debuts, but when I looked closer, I found the author had written other books. Oops! Making my list turned out to be tougher than I thought it would be! Looks like you found some fun ones to look forward to.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday!)

  2. I hope you enjoy all these! I just shared some of my favourite debut books in general this week as I didn’t have too many 2023 debut authors on my radar yet.
