Review| Tripped By Love – LJ Evans

If you’ve been following the blog you know LJ Evans is one of my favorite authors. She writes such amazing love stories and you can’t help but love her characters. Add in some amazing music (every chapter is a song title) and I’m sold. Her newest book is Tripped by Love and today it’s time to talk about this book and what I thought!

He’s a broody bodyguard with secrets he can’t share.
She’s a busy single mom with a restaurant to run.
They’re just friends until a little white lie changes everything.

Marco Hernandez is the somber trainer here only to bend my body into shape, but when the perfectly sculpted man holds my son in his arms and smiles, I’m a goner. Weak legs. Pounding veins. Too bad as my brother’s bodyguard, he’ll never look at me the way I crave. Too bad I don’t have the time between the café and my baby boy to persuade him otherwise.

Cassidy O’Neil has looked like an angel from the moment I met her…an angel I can’t touch. Not only because she’s my boss’s sister but because I’m still trying to redeem myself for the sins of my past. The tantalizing mirage of “family” she represents will remain just that―a dream-like apparition.

Until her ex returns trying to claim the son he never wanted, and I’m the one who shows him the door. The lie that falls from my lips while trying to protect her threatens the tenacious balance we’ve established.

Once it’s Cassidy’s heart on the line, how will I defend her? Especially if I’m the one putting it at risk.

Inspired by Ingrid Andress’s “We’re Not Friends,” this achingly tender, slow-burn, small-town romance from award-winning author LJ Evans has loveable characters, deep emotions, and a windy path to creating a family.

Review

Tripped by Love was a book I wanted to devour, but also take my time with. When LJ Evans announced this book was going to be about Cassidy and Marco I was sold. We met both of these characters in Cassidy’s brother’s book! I knew we would be in for a ride and I wasn’t wrong.

Cassidy has an extra x-chromosome and it does affect the way her body works at times. Except Cassidy is tired of everyone looking at her like someone fragile and that needs protection. She wants to be seen as strong and independent and does everything she can to make that happen. I loved Cassidy’s determination. Following her dreams and raising her son all by herself are things she does without the blink of an eye. She’s a hard worker and has a heart of gold. I really see her being the perfect friend.

Marco is such an interesting character with so many more layers than expected. He’s been through a lot and sacrifices himself in many ways to make others happy. After certain events in his life he doesn’t feel worthy of love. I loved learning more about his story and life. He’s definitely high on my book boyfriend list now. He’s so protective of who he loves and that definitely scored points with me!

“But the princess doesn’t fall in love with the knight because he shows us, Marco,” I said with all the confidence I could muster. ” She falls in love because when the war is over, he takes off all the armor and bares himself to her. Because they share their dreams and their goals and their hopes and their fears. She might admire him on the battlefield, but she loves him when he’s entwined himself into every part of her.”

Even though Marco and Cassidy always thought of each other as being someone they couldn’t be with their chemistry jumps off the pages. This slow burn between them was the best, but definitely so worth it! Cassidy made him realize he can accept love and is worthy of it. Marco makes Cassidy realize it’s okay to accept help and have someone care for her. It doesn’t mean she’s weak. They compliment each other so well! There’s some steamy scenes and heartwarming scenes and I’m honestly sad it’s over!

On top of the amazing romance and the story of these two characters we got to see and hear about characters from previous books which I love! And also some new amazing characters I know we’ll be getting stories and I’m so happy about that. It’s so hard to really put into words how much I love these stories. I can only just say you should really read them yourself!

Reviews for previous books in this series:

Guarded Dreams
Forged by Sacrifice
Avenged by Love
Damaged Desires
Branded by a Song

I’ll honestly be surprised if LJ ever gets less than a five star rating from me when she writes a book, haha. Do you like it when books have a playlist? Do you listen to them while reading? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you!
