We’re both scared about sitting down and actually writing this post. After a really small list in December, we both knew January would probably be the exact opposite. January is always filled with a ton of new book releases and that’s not always a good thing for our wallets, haha. Let’s take a look at our anticipated January releases.
City of the Plague God – Sarwat Chadda (January 5th)
This is based on ancient Mesopotamian mythology and I can honestly say I don’t know anything about that! I love learning about mythology through books like this. It makes it really accessible and easier to remember when I look more into it later on.
Shaking Up the House – Yamile Saied Mendez (January 5th)
This MG novel just sounds super cute. A prank war at the White House that goes wrong. Sign me up! I’m convinced this will be fun and fast.
Be Dazzled – Ryan La Sala (January 5th)
I love any and all stories set at cons. It’s one of my favorite settings for contemporary stories and I love the creative aspect of this one. I have another Ryan La Sala book on my TBR and I hope to read both soon!
Oh My Gods – Stephanie Cooke (January 5th)
This is a graphic novel and it sounds amazing. It’s about the greek gods at a high school and a seemingly regular girl joining them. This is another MG so I have high hopes.
The World Between Blinks – Amie Kaufman & Ryan Graudin (January 5th)
I love Amie Kaufman and I love the concepts of Ryan Graudin (I have yet to actually read any of the books…oops). A fantastical MG read with cousins that go on an adventure based on a treasure map from their Nana. Sounds perfect.
Happily Ever Afters – Elise Bryant (January 5th)
Jane the Virgin meets To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before? Yes, please! Our main character has never felt like she saw herself in a protagonist in the books she’s read. The only place she has seen this is in her own stories. I love when characters write or are busy with books in some way. I can’t wait to read this one!
Roman and Jewel – Dana L. Davis (January 5th)
Retellings are something I love to read and I’ve never read a Romeo and Juliet retelling! I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting story. I have an ARC, so keep an eye out for my review next month.
Glimpsed – G.F. Miller (January 5th)
Our main character is a fairy godmother (even if she’s still only a teenager, haha). You know things won’t go smoothly, but that will probably be all the fun. This is one I’m doing the book tour for, so I will be reading and reviewing soon!
Lore – Alexandra Bracken (January 5th)
I love Alexandra Bracken, I love mythology and I’m expecting to love this book as well. If I won’t love this I’m going to be so disappointed haha. I don’t have much to say to be honest, except that the early reviews are very positive.
You Have a Match – Emma Lord (January 12th)
I can’t imagine what it’s like finding out you have a sister you didn’t know exist. I love a good contemporary and after reading The How and the Why, I’m really loving the more family themed stories. I have a feeling this is going to be another emotional, but amazing story.
Concrete Rose – Angie Thomas (January 12th)
Okay, I haven’t read The Hate U Give yet, but it’s on my TBR for 2021! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about that book (even though it’s really intense) and I have a feeling I’m going to want to read this backstory.
Across the Green Grass Fields – Seanan McGuire (January 12th)
I love this series so much and knowing we are getting an equine world in about two weeks makes me so so happy. Seanan has stolen my heart with these characters and worlds and this might be my favorite yet! Here’s to hoping.
Wench – Maxine Kaplan (January 19th)
After reading Well Met and Well Played I like the tavern wench characters. Add some magic and adventure and I’m sold. I’m participating in the blog tour hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours, so keep an eye out for my review.
Cast in Firelight – Dana Swift (January 19th)
A gorgeous cover with undercover protagonists that are betrothed to be married. Do you need to know anything else? Because I don’t! Oh, this is also a duology and generally tend to enjoy those a lot.
This Will Be Funny Someday – Katie Henry (January 19th)
Katie Henry has published two books before This Will Be Funny Someday and I loved them both. I have a feeling the main character in this story is going to used stand up comedy to become more confident and find her way. The publisher sent me a physical ARC of this one, so keep an eye out for my review closer to release day!
In the Garden of Spite – Camilla Bruce (January 19th)
This is about one of the most prolific female serial killers and I’m already in love. The cover looks so cool and atmospheric. I’m a true crime lover so a book about a serial killer is definitely something I’m interested in.
Amari and the Night Brothers – B.B. Alston (January 19th)
I actually already had the chance to read this amazing middle grade book and I highly recommend it. You can find my review here. Amari and the Night Brothers is such a special story and I’m already excited to get more superhero-ish adventures in the next book!
Shipped – Angie Hockman (January 19th)
Epic email battles? Sounds like something I’ll enjoy. I’m a big fan of enemies to lovers and I have a feeling that Shipped is going to be a lot of fun. I’m hoping for lots of laughs and romantic moments.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club – Malinda Lo (January 19th)
This is set during the Red Scare in the United States during the 50s. It’s also set at a lesbian bar and the main character is an Chinese American girl. I think this might be a very emotional read and I’m not sure if I’m ready but it sounds so good.
If I Disappear – Eliza Jane Bazier (January 26th)
A true crime podcast host disappears in this mystery and I was right away super excited. As you probably know I love listening to true crime podcasts so this is right up my alley. I think this might be a wonderful new mystery and I can’t wait to read it.
Wings of Ebony – J. Elle (January 26th)
I only recently heard about this book, but Wings of Ebony sounds amazing. I have a feeling it’s going to be emotional, but a main character that is whisked away to an island of magic wielders? I need that in my life. Wings of Ebony sounds like an adventure I don’t want to miss.
The Ex Talk – Rachel Lynn Solomon (January 26th)
After reading Today Tonight Tomorrow and loving it, I knew even more so that I needed this book. The Ex Talk sounds like a book with everything I’m going to love. Humor, great characters, enemies to lovers and probably just an amazing story!
A Vow So Bold and Deadly – Brigid Kemmerer (January 26th)
Okay, so I’ve only read A Curse So Dark and Lonely and really loved it. I haven’t read the sequel yet, but I know I will soon. The third and final book is releasing, so I think I’ll want that on my shelf so I can finish this trilogy.
Unchosen – Katharyn Blair (January 26th)
A fiercely feminist fantasy with a horrifying curse and swoon-worthy sea captains. You know this was all that it took to sell this to me haha. I’m a super girl, I see swoon-worthy sea captains and I’m interested.
So these are the books releasing in January that we’re looking forward to. What books are you looking forward to? Did we miss any? We’d love to hear from you!
