Looking Back At Our Bookhauls | October 2019

We’re already past the first week of November. And that means it’s time to look back at our bookhaul from October 2019. Once again it’s going to be a bit scary to open that post again. We usually buy more books we want to read right away, without following through on that promise to our books haha. So let’s see if we managed to read these books in the past year in this month’s Looking Back at our Bookhauls!

Candyce

I’m always afraid to write these posts, haha. And before looking at the bookhaul post I couldn’t remember how many books I added to my shelves in October 2019. According to our bookhaul post, I added 13 books to my collection (4 were gifts). I have a feeling this isn’t going to end in good results, haha. Let’s take a look!

Monstress Vol. 1 – Marjorie M. Liu
Unread

I hear a lot of amazing things about this graphic novel. Monstress is a graphic novel with a lot of text and I’ve heard it takes a bit longer to read. The artwork is stunning though.

Night of Cake & Puppets – Laini Taylor
Unread

A friend of mine actually gifted Night of Cake & Puppets to me and I’m ashamed to say I still haven’t read it, haha. I really want to finish the last book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy first. I’m really surprised I haven’t finished this trilogy yet.

American Royals – Katharine McGee
Unread

I’m really not doing good this month! American Royals is a book I’ve been curious about since I heard about it and the sequel is already out. Another one on my need to read ASAP list.

The Places I’ve Cried in Public – Holly Bourne
Unread

It’s funny. I own a few books by Holly Bourne and none of them have been read yet. Friends of mine enjoy her books, so I need to change this. The Places I’ve Cried in Public sounds like it’s going to be an emotional one to read.

Into the Crooked Place – Alexandra Christo
Unread

Into the Crooked Place is a book I saw everywhere when it first released. My bookstore even had it a few days before the official release date. I actually forgot about this one until recently when the cover for the sequel was revealed.

Bad For You – J. Daniels
Unread

One I finally read! J. Daniels is an amazing romance authors and I love her stories. Bad For You had me really wanting the main characters to have their happily ever afters. If you love romance, I recommend reading this one.

King of the Republic – P.J. Berman
Unread

I won this in a competition I believe. This fantasy sounds really interesting and I really don’t have enough time to read everything I want to!

Wayward Son – Rainbow Rowell
Unread

I will be changing Wayward Son being unread soon. Not too long ago I did a reread of Fangirl and Carry On. So it’s finally time to read this one.

Nightchaser – Amanda Bouchet
Read

Look at this stunning cover! I love Amanda’s covers and this story was so much fun. My favorite part being the main character didn’t really know what cats were and her response when one started purring. The sequel is on my list to read!

Just One of the Groomsmen – Cindi Madsen
Unread

Top Secret – Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy
Unread

Two romance authors that I loved wrote a book together! Yet again, I’m shocked that I haven’t read Top Secret. It’s not that big of a book. I’ve heard amazing things about it though.

Small Spaces  – Katherine Arden
Read

Small Spaces is the spookiest middle grade book I’ve read and I couldn’t put it down. I’ll never look at scarecrows the same way again. I actually just got my hands on the sequel and hope it’s just as spooky.

Sawkill Girls – Claire Legrand
Read

Horror is a genre I’m starting to read more of and Sawkill Girls is one I saw everywhere! I enjoyed the story, but I have to say the ending was just a bit disappointing.

Far From the Tree – Robin Benway
Unread

As a big fan of This is Us, I really wanted to read Far From the Tree after reading the synopsis. I started reading it, but once again I got distracted.

Radio Silence – Alice Oseman
Unread

Alice Oseman is an author I hear so much about. Radio Silence sounds like an amazing book and I just love these covers. I have read Heartstopper and I’m hoping this one is just as good.

End Result
Read: 3/14 – 21%
Unread: 11/14 – 79%

Isabelle

I actually bought quite a lot of books in October last year haha. Last year I spent the last week of October in New York and I couldn’t leave the States without purchasing a couple of books haha. And earlier that month I already got a couple of new books as well. So I ended up with 11 new books, oops. Let’s see how many I managed to read.

Wayward Son – Rainbow Rowell
Read

I loved Fangirl and really liked Carry On. This cover of the sequel is gorgeous and of course I had to have. It was a really fun addition to the series and I’m excited for the next chapter!

Tunnel of Bones – Victoria Schwab
Read

I love Victoria and I love her books. While I had already listened to the audiobook, I got this copy so I could have it signed. A lot of my V.E. Schwab books are signed now and I own almost all of her books <3.

Ninth House – Leigh Bardugo
Unread

Ugh, I really need to read this one! I love Leigh Bardugo and I’m excited to see what she does in an adult fantasy. So far I’ve only read Grishaverse books by her, and while they are amazing it will be interesting to see something else.

The Last Wish – Andrzej Sapkowski
Unread

I really need to read this soon! The second season of the tv show has begun filming and I want to watch the first season so badly. But I really can’t do that until I’ve read at least the first book haha.

Sawkill Girls – Claire Legrand
Unread

I wanted to read this one for Halloween but I had to many books I wanted to read haha. If I’m being honest, I think this one will have to wait for Halloween next year… Hopefully I will actually read it that time around.

The Martian – Andy Weir
Read

I finally read the Martian! Now I can watch the movie haha. I really enjoyed this book and though it was a lot of fun. There was a lot of technical stuff in here but that didn’t bother me at all. I really liked reading from this MC.

Death Note Black Edition Vol 2 – Tsugumi Ohba
Read

I really like this series! At the moment I have the next volume on my immediate TBR and I can’t wait to see where this story is going. It’s a lot of fun but also quite dark. After I’ve finished the manga I want to watch the anime.

The Golden Compass – Philip Pullman
Unread

I did start reading this one but never finished. The chapters I read were enjoyable and I’m excited to continue on. I also really want to watch the tv show but I can’t do that until I’ve finished the book haha.

The Beautiful – Renée Ahdieh
Read

I read an eARC and loved it. It was so nice to come across this one in New York and I’m very happy to have this book on my shelves. I really need to finish reading the sequel and get a copy of that one as well.

Five Dark Fates – Kendare Blake
Unread

I’m so ashamed I haven’t read this one yet! This series is one of my absolute favorites ever and I’m almost halfway through this book. I guess I just don’t want to say goodbye to these sisters?

Blackbird vol 1 – Sam Humphries & Jen Bartel
Read

I read this one last year and really enjoyed it. The art was beautiful and I liked the story. Unfortunately there is no news about a sequel and I personally think it really deserves one!

End Result

Unread: 5/11 – 45%

What did you think of our results? Pretty good or a bit disappointing haha? Have you read any of our books? And which one should we pick up next. Let us know in the comments!
