Not too long ago we posted our wishlists for the Halloween book swap a friend of ours was organizing. Last week (on Halloween), we finally got to open our gifts! So today we want to show you the unboxing for spook-a-swap 2019! Let’s take a look.
It’s always fun participating in things like this, because not only do you not know what you’re going to get, but you get to put a fun box together for someone else. It’s always an exciting moment. To start off with the unboxing, I really had to work for my box. After taking off the wrapping paper, I found this spider web blocking me from my gifts!
After getting through the web, I started pulling out the wrapped gifts (I needed to get rid of the box, because my cats wanted the spider web, haha). My presents were wrapped with cute Halloween ribbon and eyes, haha. As you can see, just by looking at the amount I pulled out, I was spoiled!
Time to start off with the goodies I got. She knew I didn’t like spiders and thought it was fun to add this stuffed one in my package. If all spiders were liked this, I would be happy, haha. This is actually pretty cute.
Then I found two pins! I was really excited, because I have a leather strip on my bookcase to hang up pins. Hocus Pocus is something that always pops up around Halloween and my cat lady heart was happy with the cat pin!
Next was this cute little Halloween bag! It’s such a cute size. I don’t know what I’ll use it for, but I’ll definitely hang it up with my other tote bags!
I also got this cute little nail kit and Halloween candy. I’m actually surprised to tell you that the candy hasn’t been eaten yet as I’m typing this. It will be soon! Hopefully I can use the nail kit sometime soon. I can’t wear nail polish at work, so it will have to wait.
Then it was time for the books! I am shocked to say that I got all four of the books on my wishlist! I expected two, but not more than that! One of the books I’ve already read, but needed on my shelf. The other three I’m really excited for!
Small Spaces – Katherine Arden
This is the book I’ve already read and loved!! It’s a middle grade, but so creepy! I will never look at scarecrows the same way. Dead Voices is the second book in this series and was released recently, so I will need to read that soon!
Sawkill Girls – Claire Legrand
As a reader that doesn’t read much horror, I’m excited for this one! After reading Wilder Girls I’m excited to give this genre more of a chance. I know not all books will be for me, but I think this one will be!
Far From the Tree – Robin Benway
Far From the Tree has been recommended to This is Us fans, so I know it’s one I’ll love! And look at this pretty cover. I actually started reading the e-book last year, but once again, I got distracted by a lt of other books. It’ll stare at me from my shelves, so hopefully I’ll continue soon.
Radio Silence – Alice Oseman
I have heard nothing but amazing things about this book! A lot of people I know have read it and when this author recently announced a new book that sounded really good, I was curious! Hopefully it will meet my expectations.
This was my first time participating in the Halloween swap and I really enjoyed it! It was so much fun getting in the Halloween mood, even though it’s not really celebrated here in the Netherlands. I was on my trip to New York when the box arrived so I didn’t have to look at it that long before we were allowed to open the boxes. You always have to do a little task before you’re allowed to open the box, just so no one opens theirs before we’re supposed to. And this year we had to make this cute drawing!
I really loved how my box was wrapped and of course I was even more happy when I saw what was inside it! Although I’m super scared of spiders, I did like the fake spiderwebs and spiders in my box. It just fits the swap super well 😉 Everything was wrapped and decorated with these fun Halloween stickers. It was such a shame to throw it all away after unwrapping.
I was lucky enough to get 3 books, one of which was a hardcover! My swap buddy also included some tea which is always good. This was a small swap so it was all about the books and the wrapping, whereas next swap will be books and goodies. I got the following books:
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – Holly Jackson
The title is definitely what drew me to this one! I was looking for all Halloween type of books for my wishlist and this being a thriller seemed like a decent fit. The cover is pretty fun and the reviews are actually super positive. This has a very good Goodreads rating and I might pick this one up very soon!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Season of the Witch – Sarah Rees Brennan
I’m a big Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fan so when I saw this book I knew I had to get it. It also fits the theme of the swap perfectly. I do have to say, my expectations are pretty low as the Riverdale companion books weren’t the best. But it’s always fun to read books that go with your favorite series or movies so I’m sure I will find an enjoyable aspect to the book. And it looks pretty cool!
Dare You to Lie – Amber Lynn Natusch
I’m so happy I own this hardcover! Amber is an amazing person and I love supporting her. I really loved the first two books in this series, and while I read the second one as an eARC I do want to get it in hardcover soon. This was one of my favorite books of last year and I need more of these characters!
We were both spoiled with this book swap! The next one we’re participating in is for Christmas, so we’ll share our wishlists for that one soon. Have you ever participated in a book swap? Did you have fun? Let us know in the comments!
