I adored City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab last year, so naturally I was looking forward to Tunnel of Bones a lot! And when I saw the audiobook on Storytel on the release date I knew I had to listen to it right away! I set my audiobook to double time so I absolutely flew through the story and was done before I knew it. The title for book 3 is already revealed and I can’t wait. But let’s backtrack a bit and talk about Tunnel of Bones today. Let’s get in to it!
Trouble is haunting Cassidy Blake . . . even more than usual.
She (plus her ghost best friend, Jacob, of course) are in Paris, where Cass's parents are filming their TV show about the world's most haunted cities. Sure, it's fun eating croissants and seeing the Eiffel Tower, but there's true ghostly danger lurking beneath Paris, in the creepy underground Catacombs.
When Cass accidentally awakens a frighteningly strong spirit, she must rely on her still-growing skills as a ghosthunter -- and turn to friends both old and new to help her unravel a mystery. But time is running out, and the spirit is only growing stronger.
And if Cass fails, the force she's unleashed could haunt the city forever.

I adore the UK covers for this series! They are super detailed and just simply gorgeous. The US covers are pretty nice as well, but I think they don’t live up to the UK ones. Especially the UK covers fit the story perfectly and I wish all covers looked like this.
Cassidy and her family are in Paris to shoot the next episode of her parents’ ghosts show. This makes for a wonderful setting! I especially loved reading about the tunnels under Paris. Paris is a gorgeous city and I’ve been there a couple of times but I’ve never visited the catacombs. Something I aim to rectify as soon as possible 😉
Cassidy knows a bit more about the Veil and her skills as a ‘ghost hunter’ and I feel like she is more comfortable with herself in this second installment. We saw less individual ghost cases this time around but we got ourselves a new ‘bad ghost’. And no regular ghost, no it is a poltergeist! I really liked that this story took a pretty different turn than City of Ghosts. The poltergeist was spreading mischief that would soon turn into mayhem. Cass obviously can’t let that happen and wants to fix this mess.
I adored everything about the poltergeist! It was handled wonderfully and the backstory was heartbreaking. I loved this second book even more than the first one which I gave four stars. The poltergeist was simply brilliant in my mind and I think that is mostly the reason I loved this so much. City of Ghosts had a terrifying ‘bad ghost’ but the poltergeist is so much more! I was creeped out but also hit with a lot of feelings!
We got a wonderful setting, I mean, come on its Paris! And we got to visit some spectacular places in this story, although my heart broke a little when they went to the Notre Dame. The plot was amazing and kept me engaged the whole time. I really wished I could speed up my audiobook even further because I needed to know what happens next. And lastly, we got an ending that has me craving Bridge of Souls RIGHT NOW!
Apart from a great story we also have our wonderful characters. I really like Cassidy, she isn’t the most unique heroine out there but I think she can be a pretty good example for kids. She tires to do what is right and wants to helps people in any way she can.
I love reading MG because it has great friendships and Tunnel of Bones delivered on this front as well. Jacob is a wonderful best friend to Cass and I really like their interactions. We also got to learn a bit more about him and I hope we get even more in the next book. I might be slightly worried about Jacob and I’m excited to see how everything is going to play out.
I don’t want to say to much about the poltergeist, but they were a great character. Their storyline was so interesting and kept me on the edge of the seat. Even though you know they’re long dead, you keep on hoping things will turn out differently haha.
Once again, an amazing read by Victoria Schwab. I already loved her work and this is just another great book. Her dive into MG is a success in my opinion! Have you read this series? Or do you plan on reading it? Let me know in the comments!
