Last week Isabelle took a look to see if she’d read any of her 2019 anticipated releases. I decided to get back a bit further than that. In September 2017 I wrote a post aboute the 12 books I wanted to read before 2018. So I decided to take a look for an update. Did I read any of them? Let’s take a look!
Lord of Shadows – Cassandra Clare
read december 2018
Okay, so I didn’t read this one before 2018, but I did read it! Lord of Shadows was one emotional rollercoaster ride. I really enjoyed the whole trilogy and I can’t wait for the spinoff. Even more so, I’m really excited about Chain of Gold releasing in March.
Glass Sword – Victoria Aveyard
unread
It’s really bad that this one is still on my TBR, haha. I did actually start reading this one. I may have only got 11 pages in, but it was a start. There’s just something that hasn’t made me continue with this one yet. I keep getting distracted by other books. If this keeps on going, I’ll need to read Red Queen again first.
If There’s No Tomorrow – Jennifer L. Armentrout
read october 2017
So I read this one shortly after writing my original post! There hasn’t been a book by this author that I haven’t loved, this one included. If There’s No Tomorrow was so emotional, but has such an important message. I really recommend this book!
They Both Die at the End – Adam Silvera
read november 2017
After hearing this title and knowing they really would both die at the end, I wasn’t sure what to think. The whole story takes place in less than 24 hours, but I still connected to the characters really well. They Both Die at the End definitely has an interesting concept and got really emotional. I was crying near the end of this book!
One Dark Throne – Kendare Blake
read november 2017
Another book I read before the end of the year! If you haven’t read this series yet, I would definitely recommend it. I’ve read the first 3 books and the novellas. The last book released last year, but I haven’t read it yet. It’s on my shelf, but I don’t want it to be over just yet!
Nevernight – Jay Kristoff
read july 2019
Out of the books I’ve read on the list, it took me the longest to read this one. I’ve been asking myself why it’s taken me so long to read this trilogy! Jay Kristoff is an amazing author and this is so unique. And just to be clear, this isn’t YA!! So many people think it is. At the moment, I’m halfway through Godsgrave and really need to finish reading it!
The Heart of Betrayal – Mary E. Pearson
read december 2017
I finished this one on December 29, 2017, so just before 2018 started! Since this one, I’ve finished the trilogy. My favorite will always be the first book, but I loved all the poltics and scheming in this series. Dance of Thieves is now on my shelf ready to be read. It’s a spinoff, but I’ll be happy to visit this world again.
A Gathering of Shadows – V.E.Schwab
unread
Yet again, I’m amazed that I haven’t continued with this trilogy yet. I’m definitely motivated though. Since seeing V.E. Schwab in October, I can’t wait to read everything by her. Rereading the first book may need to be something that happens though. It’s been quite awhile!
Angelfall – Susan Ee
unread
I should be ashamed, this trilogy has been on my TBR since the end of 2016!! I know how many people love this world and its characters. There isn’t really much more to say until I pick this up to read!
Dreams of Gods and Monsters – Laini Taylor
unread
Another trilogy I really need to finish. I started Dreams of Gods and Monsters last year and got about 100 pages in. It was really interesting, but it was definitely the case of being distracted by so many other books, haha.
And I Darken – Kiersten White
unread
I own the whole trilogy, but haven’t read it yet. The covers are stunning and I love having them on my shelves. This trilogy has many mixed reviews though, so maybe that’s why I haven’t picked them up yet?
My Lady Jane – Cynthina Hand, Jodi Meadows & Brodi Ashton
read january 2018
So I read this book just a little after when I wanted to read it by! This book was SO good!! History gets a complete twist and My Lady Jane had me laughing out loud. My Plain Jane was also a lot of fun and I’m anxiously awaiting My Calamity Jane!
Results:
Read:Â 7/12 – 58%
TBR:Â 5/12 – 42%
After doing a lot of our looking back at the bookhaul posts, I was actually afraid to write this post, haha. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised. Hopefully I can complete this list by the end of this year. Backlist books are an important goal this year, so we’ll see where it goes. Have you read any of these (especially the ones I haven’t read yet)? Let me know in the comments!
I love being reminded of past TBR lists! This is fantastic!
Kristin recently posted…Review: Open Borders – the Science and Ethics of Immigration
Thank you! Yeah, I decided to look back, because I do forget about this at times. I was pleasantly surprised by how many I actually read.
I read many of these! However, we have Glass Sword in common, still need to read that one too.
Love this revisiting post. Glad you enjoyed Nevernight. You have to read Dreams of Gods and Monsters this year. It’s such an amazing series.
I loved the first two!!
