For some reason, I feel like summer calls for murder mysteries and thrillers. Especially when the book also takes place in the same season. That’s why Lies Between Us called out to me. Our setting is a town with waterfront mansions. Sounds like a great summer read! Today I want to tell you more about the book and what I thought!

Review
Reading a summer murder mystery while it’s hot outside really does help set up some vibes. I read Lies Between Us in one sitting on a hot day and it was a great combination (even if I’m not a fan of these summer temperatures myself). Jessica Goodman writes in a way that you don’t want to put it down. The fact that we had three POVs and glimpses of the night kept me on the edge of my seat.
I loved the idea of these two families being so close that they hang out every Friday and always exist in each other’s worlds. From the start it was clear that there was some tension and secrets going on, but that’s definitely something that keeps me reading. While the writing keeps you reading, I will say that this story is definitely a slow burn. We get lots of drama, secrets and betrayals, and you really don’t know who to trust.
About halfway through the book I had some theories and ended up being right. While I love being able to figure it out before the end, it is also a bit disappointing. I enjoy it more when the author can fool me. I will also say that how this story was built up, I do feel that the ending was a bit underwhelming. All in all, I did have a good time and it’s definitely an entertaining story for an afternoon at the beach or by the pool.
