Trope Thursday | Enemies-to-Lovers

A little while ago I shared some of my absolute favorite tropes in books. And I already wrote a post about the Fake Dating trope. Today I want to talk about the Enemies-to-Lovers tropes, another one of my favorites. Let’s get to it!

Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas

One of my favorite series ever and I would say it has the enemies-to-lovers trope in it multiple times! Most relationships in this series start with the characters as enemies haha. Celaena and Sam, Aelin and Rowan, Manon and Dorian, just to name a few. It always makes for good banter between characters and I live for that stuff.

Cruel Prince – Holly Black

These characters are some of the most enemies who turn to lovers I’ve read so far. They’re not just rivals I would say and it makes for a really interesting story. Just when you think they turn into lovers, something else happens! I would say this is mostly a political story, but it does have a bit of romance in it.

The Wrath and the Dawn – RenĂ©e Ahdieh

It’s been awhile since I read this one and I hardly ever hear people talk about it. But this is such a great story! It’s a retelling of a thousand and one nights and it’s incredibly well done. The main characters start of as enemies and the love slowly but surely grows.

Six of Crows – Leigh Bardugo

I recently reread this duology and I almost forgot it had a great enemies to lovers storyline with Nina and Mathias. This is such a wonderful story in general, but I also love love love this storyline. While they become lovers, there remains this enemies part that makes you question what will happen next at all times.

Red, White & Royal Blue – Casey McQuiston

The only contemporary novel on this list. And one that also has a twist on the fake dating trope, in this case it starts with a fake friendship that grows into more. I really liked that twist on a favorite trope, it also gave us that banter I love.

This is How You Lose the Time War – Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone

Another one that has a second trope I adore; time travel. This is such an incredible book, it’s very different from other books I would say. It can be hard to understand at times, but it’s not always necessary to understand everything I would say. The overall feeling and message of the story is very clear and I adored it.

These are a couple of my favorite books with the enemies-to-lovers trope, but I have many more haha. What are some of your favorite enemies-to-lovers books? I would love to hear from you down below!
