I wanted to try something new on Thursdays! We have talked about a ton of things over the years, and one of those things have been tropes in books. I thought it would be fun and interesting to talk more about tropes. And that could be favorite tropes, tropes I want to try or books that fit with a certain trope for example. With that said, today as a bit of an introduction, I want to talk about some of my favorite tropes in books. So let’s dive in!
Enemies-to-Lovers
This is for sure one of my absolute favorite tropes. I love the banter that usually goes with this trope and the slow realisation one of them has about their feelings. And this one is so much better when they’re actual enemies or at least rivals, and not just people who somewhat dislike each other. I don’t think I will ever get sick of this trope, although I do think it can be done poorly unfortunately.
Fake Dating
Another one I don’t think I will ever get sick of. My favourite book with this trope is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and I have been chasing that high ever since haha. After therapy and some soul searching, I do know why I like this trope so much and I’m fine with that fact haha. I will still enjoy it and I will keep on adding books with this trope to my shelves haha.
Found Family
This warms my heart every single time! I read The Golden Raven the other week and all the found family stuff in it warmed my heart so much. Like, I actually teared up at times. This trope fits really well with all the fantasy and sci-fi books I read, but it also works in other books. I love seeing the support, love and acceptance characters can get in found families.
Unreliable Narrator
As a mystery/thriller reader this is just such a fun trope! It’s just really hard to find books like this without spoiling myself. If I know the book has an unreliable narrator I can often predict the ending and that is such a shame. Because the trope works so well when you don’t know the narrator is unreliable and you get the twist or reveal at the end. Nevertheless, I love coming across books with this trope!
Time Travel
I wasn’t sure if this would count as a trope or not, but I decided to go with it anyway. There are a ton of books with time travel elements on my shelves. I love seeing how authors tackle this one! You can go all kinds of ways with it, what are the rules, how does it work, what are the consequences? I don’t always like the direction the author goes in, but I usually do really appreciate what the author created.
These were 5 of my favorite tropes in books. I plan on writing more in depth posts about these tropes, and of course I plan on talking about other tropes as well! What do you think about these tropes? And what would tropes would you like a blogpost about? Let me know down below!

Enemies to Lovers is one of my favourite tropes and I agree with you that it’s the banter that makes it. I also love second chance romance and fake dating.
