Another month is over, so it’s time to talk about what books we read in the month of March. Did we have a good reading month? Did we find any new favorites? Keep on reading our March wrap up to find out!
Candyce
In March I read 41 books (14 books on KU, 12 paperbacks, 5 eARCs, 4 ebooks, 3 manga, and 3 audiobooks). I’ve never read that much in a month. Not all of these were huge and I had a few manga. My two weeks off of work definitely helped as well. I’ll be surprised if this happens again this year, but it was fun to accomplish. My average rating was a 4.2, so I read some good books as well! Let’s take a look at what I read.
Hopeless – Elsie Silver
The Chestnut Springs series is one of my favorites and I finally read Hopeless. Finishing this series is kind of bittersweet. Beau’s story is one I’ve wanted since we first read about him. Bailey’s story isn’t an easy one either, but I feel like they really needed each other. I’m a fan of fake dating/marriage of convenience, so this one really worked for me.
A Torch Against the Night – Sabaa Tahir
I can’t say too much seeing how this is a sequel, but it was just as actionpacked and emotional as the first book. Sabaa Tahir really knows how to hit you in the feels and keep you at the edge of your seat at the same time. I’m so glad I’m revisiting this series. I don’t remember anything after nine years, haha.
People We Meet on Vacation – Emily Henry
People We Meet on Vacation has been on my shelves for so long, but I just kept on saving it, I guess? I’m glad I finally picked it up though, because Poppy and Alex’s story was amazing. The book keeps taking up back between their previous vacations and this summer. It made me laugh, cry, and it was just so heartwarming. Once again, I completely understand why Emily Henry has become one of my favorite authors.
Funny Story – Emily Henry
Emily Henry did it again! Funny Story was such an amazing story. I loved the idea of Daphne fake dating her ex fiancee’s new fiancee’s ex. It wasn’t only that though. This book was filled with love, friendship, healing, family, and letting your walls down. Miles and Daphne’s story was emotional but perfection. The side characters were also pretty amazing.
Off to the Races – Elsie Silver
I’m trying to get caught up with Elsie Silver’s backlist and I only have the Gold Rush Ranch series to go. Billie and Vaughn’s romance is one I ended up loving, but Vaughn wasn’t a character I loved right away. In all honesty, the horse Billie trained stole the show, haha.
Wild Side – Elsie Silver
I was anxiously awaiting the release of Wild Side. This marriage of convenience romance was sad, funny, spicy, and heartwarming all at the same time. Tabitha and Rhys have both dealt with a lot in their lives, so when Tabitha’s sister passes away things get tricky. Her sister made Rhys guardian of her son, Milo, but Tabitha doesn’t plan on letting anyone take her nephew. That definitely causes some issues, but also gives us a beautiful love story. Milo and Cleocatra really made this story even better.
Magnolia Parks: The Long Way Home – Jessa Hastings
I finally continued my journey in the Magnolia Parks Universe. Just like the first two books, Magnolia Parks: The Long Way Home is filled with a lot of drama. It’s really like a train wreck you just can’t stop watching. I will say I’m so invested in all of these characters. I didn’t see the ending coming at all! I will be reading the next book ASAP!
Promise Me Sunshine – Cara Bastone
After Ready or Not, I knew I needed to read any new book written by Cara Bastone. All I can say is that everyone needs to read Promise Me Sunshine. This book is filled with grief, family, love, and just learning to live again. Milo and Lenny were such amazing characters. I’m sad this book is over.
The Charlie Method – Elle Kennedy
Last month I read The Dixon Rule, and we got a glimpse of what The Charlie Method would be about. This book didn’t disappoint! The Charlie Method was spicy, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and everything I didn’t know I needed. Charlie, Will, and Beckett were great characters and I’m sad that this series is over.
By the Book – Jasmine Guillory
By the Book is a Beauty and the Beast retelling in the Meant to be Series. This book was so much fun. I loved all of the subtle nods to the fairytale and I enjoyed these two characters. I read By the Book in just one sitting. The only thing that would’ve made this even better is if we had also gotten Beau’s POV.
Forever, Interrupted – Taylor Jenkins Reid
After watching the adaptations of One True Loves earlier in March, I decided I wanted to finally sit down and read the only other unread book by Taylor Jenkins Reid that I own. I’ve given everything by this author 5 stars so far, except for this one. While I did enjoy the dual timeline and the concept of this story, I just didn’t love it as much as Taylor’s other stories.
Wicked Beauty – Katee Robert
I finally read the third installment of the Dark Olympus series. This time around we get Helen, Achilles, and Patroclus’ story. It was definitely interesting getting three POVs and seeing them all end up together. I really enjoyed the tournament aspect of them all trying to become the new Ares. The way the story ends has me curious to see how this series will continue.
Cat + Gamer Volume 7 – Wataru Nadatani
This slice of life manga has earned a special place in my heart and this volume was another fun time. There’s not much to say about it, but if you love cats (and gaming?), I highly suggest reading this one. I’m sad that volume 8 is the final volume in this series.
My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 Vol. 4 & 5 – Mashiro
Volume 4 still covers what I’ve seen in the anime, but it’s still fun to read. The characters are fun and I love the little bits of gaming they incorporate into the story. This one is really sweet and heartwarming. Volume 5 actually goes further than the anime and that made it really interesting. There are a few characters introduced that I don’t trust and it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I hope we find out when volume 6 will be releasing soon.
Lights Out – Navessa Allen
Lights Out kind of went viral all over TikTok and Instagram, and I’ve been curious about this dark stalker romance. Even though this story is very dark, it also has a lot of humor. Also, if you enjoy listening to audiobooks, I suggest listening to this. Aly and Josh were great characters to read about.
Puck Shy – Teagan Hunter
Teagan Hunter writes books that make you laugh out loud and that was definitely the case with Puck Shy. I had a great time with Harper and Collin’s story! This started off as a five star read, but I ended up giving it four stars. I needed just a little more time with these two actually being together.
Blind Pass – Teagan Hunter
After enjoying Puck Shy, I decided to give Blind Pass a try. I already had it on my Kindle app. Blind Pass is Ryan and Rhodes’ story after they wake up in Vegas married. Once again, I had a great time with these characters and the story, but it still feels like it’s missing something. Maybe that we don’t really get a lot of them together and it’s more telling us than showing us things.
Murder in the Dressing Room – Holly Stars
Cozy mysteries aren’t something I read often, but do enjoy. Murder in the Dressing Room is a group read for an online book club I’m in, so I picked it up. Unfortunately, this one was a let down for me. The writing gets repetitive and the suspense and thrill I’m supposed to have for a book like this just wasn’t there. I loved all of the representation and the concept, but the writing left me frustrated.
Twisted Kingdom – Rina Kent
Twisted Kingdom was the final book in Elsa and Aiden’s trilogy and wow that was quite the ride. There were so many twists and turns I wasn’t expecting at all. If you don’t mind some darker romances, I highly suggest reading the Royal Elite series.
Black Knight – Rina Kent
In the beginning of the book, Rina Kent says that Black Knight is her darkest book yet in this series, and that was so true. Xander and Kimberly’s story is tragic, heartbreaking, and dark. Both of them needed someone to see them and just love them. They were that for each other. I read Black Knight in one sitting.
Vicious Prince – Rina Kent
Can you tell I’ve been binging this series? Haha. Vicious Prince finally gives us Ronan’s story and it was one I was curious about since we meet him. He seems to be a happy and funny character, but there’s a lot more going on. Teal and Ronan have a lot more in common that they realize and really help each other heal. I loved this one just a little less than the previous books, but it was still amazing.
Nocticadia – Keri Lake
I really think the first sentence of the synopsis really describes it all: “A dark atmospheric tale of deadly secrets and forbidden love”. Lilia is given a scholarship for Dracadia University after a paper she writes for one of her classes. This place is filled with secrets and lots of dark things. The romance is a slow burn and I really appreciated that. I really get why this is a hyped book!
Whirlwind – Kayla Grosse
Whirlwind is a spicy, age-gap, storm chaser romance that was a lot of fun. It’s not really long, so I flew right through it. The audiobook had fun sound effects (thunder, alarms, ringing phones) and Finley and Ryker had a very intense romance. I enjoyed the storm chasing elements and I really hope Joey and Hawk get their own book.
Eternal Reign – Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti
So even though I haven’t finished the Zodiac Academy series by these authors, but I’ve been really curious about Age of Vampires. Eternal Reign is clearly the start of a new fantasy world and I was very intrigued by Montana and Callie. I definitely get Divergent and Hunger Games vibes from this and it had me hooked. I’m excited to see where this story goes.
Ruthless Empire – Rina Kent
Cole has been a character I’ve been wanting to know more about since the beginning of this series as well as Silver. I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t the biggest fan of Silver until this book. I definitely understand her a lot more and Cole and Silver really belonged together. I loved how all of the stories in this series came together in Ruthless Empire. I’m sad the series is over, but I’m excited to continue with Rina Kent’s backlist.
Royal Elite Epilogue – Rina Kent
I thought it was a fine idea that the author decided to give us some extra scenes with all of the characters we’ve gotten to know in this series. I was a little disappointed that half of the chapters were the epilogues we got in the books. The new chapters were fun, but it didn’t really blow me away.
Reign of a King – Rina Kent
After finishing the Royal Elite series, it was time to jump into the Kingdom duet. I didn’t really care for Aiden’s father in the beginning of that series, but I can tell you after this book I’m a big fan of Jonathan now. Aurora and Jonathan go through a lot and it was great seeing both of them let their walls drop. That ending can’t be true though! It left me needing more!
Evidence of the Affair – Taylor Jenkins Reid
After watching One True Loves and reading Forever, Interrupted I decided to finally read Evidence of the Affair. I’m hesitant when it comes to short stories, because I don’t tend to like them. Evidence of the Affair is told through letters and they are written by a man and a woman who have partners having an affair together. I never expected to get invested as I did in such a short time.
The Fall Risk – Abby Jimenez
While I’m anxiously awaiting for the audiobook of Say You’ll Remember Me, I decided to pick up The Fall Risk. This short story is about two characters who get stuck in their apartment when their stairs are accidentally taken down. Just like with Evidence of the Affair, I never expected to get as attached as I did in these 82 pages. I have to say I’d love to see this one as a full novel.
Rise of a Queen – Rina Kent
Rise of the Queen is the second and final book of the Kingdom duet. I was very invested in Aurora and Jonathan’s story and I couldn’t put it down. We learn more about their pasts and how they ended up where they are now. They definitely belong together and I was very happy with the ending.
Immortal Prince – Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti
Immortal Prince picks up right where Eternal Reign ends. I love the dual POVs and Montana and Callie are interesting. When we get extra POVs from Erik and Magnar and that definitely added some extra information I needed. The twists and turns had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down. I only wish the chapters were a little shorter.
Scythe & Sparrow – Brynne Weaver
Scythe & Sparrow is the final book in The Ruinous Love Trilogy. Fionn is a character I’ve been very curious about since we met him in the first book. Rose and Fionn meet unexpectedly, but have a connection from the start. Brynne Weaver gave us another dark and funny romance, and some emotional parts on top of that. I loved that this took place around the same time as the first two books and seeing the other characters from the previous books made the end of the series. I also think we got a glimpse of what this author will be giving us next.
Fan Service – Rosie Danan
My fangirl heart loved Fan Service. There are a lot of fun pop culture references and the werewolf show talked about in this book could easily be something I would’ve watched. Add in a slow burn, spicy romance, and I was sold. I’m so glad I had an eARC of this one.
Go Luck Yourself – Sara Raasch
The Nightmare Before Kissmas was such a fun book and I loved it last year. Go Luck Yourself was about Kris, Coal’s brother, and he’s trying to figure out what he really wants. As someone who has always made sure others are okay, this wasn’t easy for him. I will say it took me a bit to warm up to Loch, but once I did, I couldn’t put Go Luck Yourself down. Go Luck Yourself is heartwarming, funny, steamy, and filled with holiday cheer. This one gave me Red, White & Royal Blue vibes. I really hope Iris gets a story!
Boys I Know – Anna Gracia
Boys U Know is a very realistic picture of being a teenager. Relationships get messy and you’re trying to figure out where you fit and belong. June is an interesting character and definitely not perfect, but I appreciated that. I do wish a few subjects were given a little more though, but all in all this was an okay read.
Artifacts of an Ex – Jennifer Chen
Artifacts of an Ex is a cute YA romance. Chloe decides to make an exhibit for people to add the stuff they received from their exes. On top of that we get a cute romance. It wasn’t my favorite read of the month, but it was a fun read.
Rachel Weiss’s Group Chat – Lauren Appelbaum
Rachel Weiss’s Group Chat sounded like a book I’d love, but unfortunately this one didn’t work for me at all. I didn’t like any of the characters, and I don’t feel like this was really a romance. Also, the video that went viral when our main characters were joking about Me too, and then just disappeared felt really out of place.
Love Scenes – Bridget Morrissey
Bridget Morrissey is an author I’ve really enjoyed since I read That Summer Feeling and A Thousand Miles. So I decided to give her debut adult novel a try. Love Scenes was an okay book, but it’s clear it was her debut. I didn’t love this one as much, but I’m still glad I gave it a try.
Beg, Borrow, or Steal – Sarah Adams
I love a good rivals to lovers story and Beg, Borrow, or Steal was exactly what I wanted. These two characters are both second-grade teachers have a past, but that changes when they start working together after she sends an email that can reveal some things she doesn’t want out in the public just yet. I loved how passionate both of these characters were for their jobs, books, and how both of them dealt with some issues with their families. And this is all while they were falling in love!
One on One – Jamie Harrow
One on One was a book I saw recently during a vlog or on bookstagram. I can’t remember which one. I’m always open for new sports romances, so I decided to give it ago. Unfortunately, I was just bored. There was nothing wrong with the writing, but nothing really happens until the last 10% of the book. Also, this is supposed to be a basketball romance, but there isn’t much of it in the story?
Isabelle
After Candyce’s wrap-up mine is extremely small haha. But I am pretty happy, I did read some great books and I’m ahead of schedule for my reading challenge!
The Sunshine Court & The Golden Raven – Nora Sakavic
I reread the Sunshine Court to get ready for the newest book in the series; The Golden Raven. Rereading the Sunshine Court was wonderful, it reminded me that I came to really love these characters. And The Golden Raven just confirmed it. I loved the focus on friendships and definitely shed some tears. The next book is already one of my most anticipated releases.
Sunrise on the Reaping – Suzanne Collins
Like I said yesterday, one of my most anticipated releases! I thought I knew the story of this Quarter Quell, but oh my was I wrong. The theme of this book is propaganda and it is down really well. I loved this and it broke me. That is all I have to say.
Gideon the Ninth – Tamsyn Muir
I finally read this one! Years ago I started reading this but didn’t come that far. Recently I started from the start and thanks to the audiobook, I got through it pretty quickly. I’m still not sure how to rate this one, but I do think I want to read the sequel.
The Seven Year Slip – Ashley Poston
I saw a lot of hype for this book and decided I wanted to see what that was all about. This was for sure a sweet and fun romance story. But it didn’t live up to my expectations, I thought it would be extremely emotional and I just didn’t get that from the story. Don’t get me wrong, it was a 4 star read for me and I liked it a lot, just not a 5 star read unfortunately.
So that’s our March wrap up! Have you read any of these? Or did you discover any new favorites last month? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
