Review | Ruthless Fae & The Reckoning – Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

Since I got Kindle Unlimited, I have been reading the Zodiac Academy books! A little while ago I shared my thoughts on the first book; The Awakening. Since then I have read the second and third books and I wanted to share some of my thoughts with you! I don’t have a ton to say about each individual book, so I wanted to do both at the same time. Let’s jump in!

They tried to break us.
They almost did.
But we’re not going anywhere.

The Celestial Heirs think the stars are on their side. But they don’t know what’s coming. Fighting them one on one isn’t an option so we have to be stealthy. Remaining under the radar won’t be easy, but if we pull it off, they’ll never suspect our involvement when their lives start falling apart.

Besides, they’ve already taken us to the brink of hell, what more can they really do?

The answer to your question will be revealed on the Lunar Eclipse. But when finding the truth, don’t let the shadows take you.

The week of The Reckoning has begun. And senior students have been tasked with making the freshmen’s lives pure hell as they prepare to take their fateful assessment.

With the Lunar Eclipse on the horizon, Tory and Darcy have more to worry about than just passing their exams. A dark plot is unfolding and the shadows are drawing closer…

In the second and third book we got some POV’s from the Celestial Heirs and while it took me a while to warm up to them, I did enjoy reading from their POV. The Heirs are still *ssholes, but I also came to appreciate them a bit more. We learn more about their backgrounds and their motivations and while I don’t agree with them most of the time, it did give me some perspective.

I really enjoyed most of the storylines, but I’m still not happy that they included a teacher-student relationship, no matter their ages. It’s just not ago. I have a feeling there will be an Elysian Mates (soulmates in this universe) situation but I don’t think I will ever be fully on board. The other relationships are much more interesting to me! They are also very messy, but I don’t mind that at all.

One part I LOVED, was Pitball! I adore made up sports, especially in fantasy worlds. Give me a good magic sport and I will be hooked, as I was here! I truly hope we get to see more Pitball, maybe the girls will play in the later books? It was also cool to see Geraldine be more of a star, she has become a beloved character of mine for sure.

Tory and Darcy have been through a lot in these books and it’s still not over for them haha. Somehow I think I like Tory a bit more than I do Darcy but I can’t really say why it’s just a feeling. I do love the relationship between the sisters a lot.

The overall story is fun and interesting and I for sure will be continuing this series. I will be reading the Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac trilogy first as those characters apparently will be in the rest of the Zodiac Academy books. While I do enjoy these books, I am also aware they are not the best written things ever. But they’re easy to read and they are addictive for sure!
