Bookish Item| 2024 Reading Goals Wrap Up Part 2

It’s the start of a new year, so it’s good to look back at the year before and see if I accomplished the reading goals I set for myself. Yesterday Isabelle did her reading goals wrap up, so it’s my turn today! Let’s see how my 2024 reading year went.

Goodreads Challenge

I’ve been setting my reading goal to 100 books for the last few years. I know it’s something I can easily accomplish, and I just enjoy to see how much I can end up reading. 2024 has been my best reading year yet. I read a total of 351 books (121,559 pages)! I had 126 five star reads, and my average rating was 4 stars, so I was reading good books as well.

Netgalley Ratio

So this is a goal I didn’t accomplish. I wanted to hit 60%, but only got to 45%. That is still a big improvement. At the beginning of 2023 I was at 25% and at the beginning of 2024, it was 32%. Even though I added 76 books to my Netgalley shelf in 2024, I reviewed 47 books in 2024. I am determined to increase my ratio as much as possible in 2025.

Physical TBR

My goal was to have 50% of the books I read in 2024 be from my shelves. In 2024, out of the 351 books I read, 151 were physical reads (I read five volumes of manga on my Kobo). Out of the 151 physical books, 3 hardcovers and 2 volumes of manga were my boyfriend’s books. So I read 146 books off of my shelves. That is about 42% of the books I read in 2024. So it’s not 50%, but I’m pleased with how close I was!

Completing Series

My goal was to complete 12 series in 2024. I love reading series, but I’m terrible at completing them. There are still so many series I would be done with if I read just one book. In 2024, I completed 15 series if I counted correctly. That’s not too bad if I do say so myself.

Catch Up on Some Backlists

In my list of 2024 goals I mentioned some authors I wanted to catch up with. A lot have pretty big backlists. I can say that I didn’t catch up with a single backlist like I wanted to. This is a goal I didn’t think of a lot to be honest. It’s still something I want to work on in 2025!

Read Authors I Haven’t Read Yet, But Own Multiple Books by Them

I realized there were a few authors on my shelves I owned multiple books by, but hadn’t read anything from. This is another goal I didn’t think of much last year. There is an author I mentioned in my goals post, Jeff Zentner, I did end up reading a book by him. It was a five star read. So this just proves I need to do this more often.

There are a couple of other things I want to mention that weren’t reading goals, but I worked on this year. Let’s take a look!

Reading Bigger Books (500+ pages)

So I didn’t make this a goal, but reading bigger books is something I still want to keep an eye on! In 2023, I read 18 books that were 500+ pages. In 2024, I read 20 books that were 500+ pages. So that’s not a lot more than the year before, but it is a little improvement. As for books between 400 and 499 pages, I read 57 in 2023. In 2024, I read 74 books that were between 400 and 499 pages.

Reading Physically While Listening to the Audiobook

At the beginning of 2024, I discovered that I really enjoyed reading along with the audiobook. It’s like the story is being told to you! This also speeds up my reading. Not only because I read faster, but because I’m more concentrated. When I listen along, I can’t stop to look at my phone without losing my spot. I ended up reading 110 books while listening along to the audiobook. I’ll be taking this to 2025 as well. It just really works for me!

So even though I didn’t accomplish all of my goals, but I got close, and had an amazing reading year. In the end, that’s all that really matters. How was your reading year? Were you able to accomplish the reading goals you set for yourself? Or did you discover anything about your reading? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
