How am I already sitting down to make my first 2025 TBR? It still seems insane that 2024 is just about over. There are still so many books I want to read and so many releasing in January that I definitely want to get my hands on. Let’s take a look at my January TBR!
Group Reads/Buddy Reads
January is actually starting off really busy when it comes to group reads and book club. There are a total of four books I “have” to read.
Quicksilver – Callie Hart
Quicksilver is a book that really gained a lot of hype this year. It went from being indie published to traditionally published. I’ve been curious about this one since the start, so I thought why not use it for the first swoonalong read of January. I know the sequel releases later in 2025, so I’ll be ready!
The Teller of Small Fortunes – Julie Leong
I’ll be joining an adult reads group read every month in 2025, and our first read will be The Teller of Small Fortunes. I want to say this is a cozy fantasy or at least seems to be one. A wandering fortune teller finds an unexpected family. That’s all I need to know.
An Ember in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir
The first series slayers series of 2025 is going to be An Ember in the Ashes. This is the first book in a four book series and I’m excited to see what everyone thinks. After reading this, I’ll definitely be reading Heir by this author.
The Bright Sword – Lev Grossman
Our first in person book club read of 2025 is The Bright Sword. We had a longer time between meetings, so we picked a longer book. This is a King Arthur re-imagining/retelling? It sounds like a fun book, so I’m excited to pick it up and see what I think.
eARCs
2025 is starting off with me having some eARCs I’m really excited about. As I’m typing this, I’ve already read two of my January eARCs, so I’d say I’m off to a good start. There are a few more I’m excited about reading.
A Sea of Unspoken Things – Adrienne Young
After reading Spells for Forgetting, Adrienne Young became an author I need to read more from. A Sea of Unspoken Thing sounds like another dark and atmospheric book. January is the perfect month to read a book like this. All I know is that a woman investigates her brother’s mysterious death.
A Serial Killer’s Guide to Marriage – Asia Mackay
It’s such an interesting concept to read a book about a couple who are ex-serial killers. I think (and hope) not many couples can say that. Except Hazel starts getting the itch and could risk the safe environment that they’ve created for their family. I’m intrigued!
Beautiful Ugly – Alice Feeney
Alice Feeney is an author I’ve read a few books by and I’ve loved her thrillers. Beautiful Ugly is her 2025 release and I have an eARC and ALC of this one. I don’t know much about this one, because I prefer to go into thrillers knowing as little as possible. I did recently watch a reading vlog where someone read this and loved it, so I am even more excited.
Physical/Backlist Books
In 2025, I still plan on picking a few random books from my own TBR every month to read. This year I want to concentrate on my own TBR as much as possible. Which is going to be hard, because there are so many 2025 releases I’m excited about!
The Honey Witch – Sydney J. Shields
I’m not mad about this first random pick. The Honey Witch is a book I have a copy of on my shelves and I have an eARC, so I can read a backlist book and put my feedback on Netgalley when I read this. The Honey Witch is cursed to never be able to find true love. I’m curious to see if she’ll break this curse.
Charm – Tracy Wolff
The Crave series is one I devoured as the books released. Well, at least the first four books. I only have two books to go and I do want to know how it ends. Charm is the next book and I’ve been saying I’ll read it for quite some time. In 2025, I really want to finish this series, so I can read the spinoff series. The second book in that series releases in May, so I want to catch up.
As Good As Dead – Holly Jackson
I loved the first two books in the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy and I’m so surprised I haven’t finished this trilogy. I want to say As Good As Dead has been on my TBR a few times in 2024, but in 2025, I will get this one read!
Well, if I read my whole January 2025, I’ll be starting the year reading a lot of pages (4,597). There are some big books on here! What do you want to read in January? Or have you read any of these? Which one should I start with? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
