Bookhaul | August 2024

It’s the start of a new month, so of course we have to take a look at our previous month when it comes to bookish things. So today it’s time for our August bookhaul. Did we get any new books last month? If so, what did we get? Keep on reading to find out!

Candyce

In August I ended up adding 10 books to my shelves. Two of these, I’ve already previously read digitally, but I really wanted them on my shelves to reread. So let’s take a look at what I added to my shelves.

Better than the Movies – Lynn Painter

Better than the Movies is one of my favorite young adult books and I’ve already read it twice. I was really lucky and received an eARC before it released and then I listened to the audiobook. The sequel to this book releases in October, so I’ve decided to reread and annotate this one before diving into my eARC of Nothing Like the Movies.

A Thousand Boy Kisses – Tillie Cole

I read A Thousand Boy Kisses in 2016 and I know it had me crying near the end. The sequel, A Thousand Broken Pieces, just released and I want to get back into the story before reading this one. I know it’s going to hurt again, but it’s been so long, I need to read it again.

Tangled Up in You – Christina Lauren

Christina Lauren is such a fun author duo and I’m excited about their Rapunzel retelling, Tangled Up in You. I own the first three books in this series of retellings, so of course, I had to add this one to my shelves as well. Tangled Up in You is also my August swoon read.

The Pairing – Casey McQuiston

After Red, White & Royal Blue, Casey McQuiston has become an autobuy author for me. The Pairing follows two exes who accidentally end up on the same tour through Europe and decided to have a hook up competition to prove they’re over the other. That’s going to be interesting!

This Ravenous Fate – Hayley Dennings

We’re heading into the cozier months, and that means more fantasy for me. This Ravenous Fate takes place in 1920s Harlem and has vampires. That’s all I know about this book, but I’ve heard some amazing things. I can’t wait to read it soon!

Curious Tides – Pascale Lacelle

Curious Tides is another book I’ve had my eyes on for quite some time and dark academia books also scream fall to me. This has a secret society and a character trying to figure out who is behind her classmates’ deaths. Sounds like a perfect rainy day read to me! The sequel releases soon, so it seems like a perfect time to read this one.

Apprentice to the Villain – Hannah Nicole Maehrer

After the cliffhanger we got at the end of Assistant to the Villain, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of this book. I’m kind of scared to read Apprentice to the Villain for the fact that we are getting a third book. So will we get another horrific cliffhanger at the end of this one as well?

Bonded by Thorns – Elizabeth Helen

Bonded by Thorns is the Fairyloot Romantasy book for August, and it’s one I’ve seen around recently. I believe this is a why choose fae romance? The fourth and final book in the series releases later this year, so I’m hoping I love this one. This edition is stunning.

Year One – Sophie Lark

I believe this book was originally called The Heir, but Bloom Books gave it the Year One title. I love this edition with beautiful blue sprayed edges. I’ve enjoyed previous books by Sophie Lark, so I’m excited about reading another book by her.

House of Beating Wings – Olivia Wildenstein

House of Beating Wings is a book I’ve been curious about for quite some time, and I couldn’t resist this pretty edition. I love the sprayed edges and I’ll definitely collect this one as it releases if I end up loving it.

Isabelle

For a little bit I thought this was a month with no new books for me. Then I remembered I actually did buy a new book haha. Let’s take a look!

Apprentice to the Villain – Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Candyce reminded me that this one released and after the cliffhanger of the first book, I really wanted to get this one! I laughed out loud multiple times reading The Assistant to the Villain so I have high hopes for this one. When I bought this one I was with my brother and he saw me reaching for the book, saw the title and hit me with; “well, you don’t need that, hahahaha”. Thanks a lot baby bro haha.

So that’s our August bookhaul! Have you read any of these? Or did you add some amazing books to your shelves? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.
