Looking Back at Our Bookhauls| August 2024

We’re back again with the scariest post of the month, haha. Looking Back at Our Bookhauls posts are to try and keep us reading the new books we add to our shelves. So how did we do with our August 2024 bookhaul? Let’s take a look!

Candyce

In August 2024 I added 10 books to my shelves. Two I had already read, so let’s see how many of the 8 unread books that I’ve read since there.

Better Than the Movies – Lynn Painter
Read

Better Than the Movies was one of the books I had already read! This was my first Lynn Painter book and I devoured the eARC I had of this. Since I read the eARC I’ve also listened to the audiobook and I actually read this paperback before the sequel released last year.

A Thousand Broken Pieces – Tillie Cole
Read

After A Thousand Boy Kisses, I knew that A Thousand Broken Pieces was going to break my heart, but I didn’t know it was going to be that bad. Well, I could’ve guessed. I mean a camp for grieving teenagers wasn’t going to be a light read. I do feel like the author showed up that no one grieves in the same way. I’ll definitely be thinking of this book for years to come.

Tangled Up in You – Christina Lauren
Read

Tangled Up in You was a really cute Rapunzel retelling. Ren is very isolated and only knows her parents and their farm. So when she goes to college (with a lot of rules) and she’s so innocent. It was so fun seeing her discover the world and Fitz was such a sweet MMC. There were even some intense moments, but Tangled Up in You ended up leaving a smile on my face.

The Pairing – Casey McQuiston
Read

Ever since Red, White & Royal Blue I’ve been picking up Casey McQuiston’s books, because that one was so amazing. The Pairing sounded like a really fun but ended up being a let down unfortunately. The idea of these two characters getting back together and the tension was interesting, but I feel like too much of this book was just set up for them to hurt each other.

This Ravenous Fate – Hayley Dennings
Read/Unhaul

I only recently read This Ravenous Fate and it was very entertaining. I do feel like I missed some back story and information about this world. Just a little more development would’ve let me enjoy this story just a bit more. I’m not sure if I’m going to read the sequel.

Curious Tides – Pascale Lacelle
Unread

So I haven’t read Curious Tides yet, but it is one I really want to read soon. In fact, I just got the audiobook for this one. This does feel like the perfect autumn read. Hopefully I end up loving it like I think I will.

Apprentice to the Villain – Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Read

In the bookhaul post I asked the question if Apprentice to the Villain would have a cliffhanger like the first book, and it did have a cliffhanger! Thankfully, I do have the third book now and will be reading it soon. These books are just so much fun and I’m invested in these characters.

Bonded by Thorns – Elizabeth Helen
Read

This why choose fae romance is also a Beauty and the Beast retelling and I ended up loving this more than I expected. So much so, that I actually read all four of the books that are out now in about a month. Yeah, the last book dragged a little bit in some areas, but I enjoy myself so much that I just don’t care, haha. I can’t wait for the fifth book releasing next year.

Kingmakers: Year One – Sophie Lark
Unread

I decided to collect the first print of this series, because Bloom was releasing them with pretty sprayed edges. So I own all of them, but still need to start the first book, haha.

House of Beating Wings – Olivia Wildenstein
Unread

House of Beating Wings was another one that I bought because of the pretty sprayed edges, but also because it sounds really good. This one is pitched for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Mary E. Pearson. I’ve enjoyed both authors, so I’ll be surprised if I don’t enjoy this one.

End Result:
Read: 7/10 – 70%
TBR: 3/10 – 30%

Isabelle

I only bought one new book last August! And lately I’ve been doing pretty well with reading the books I added to my shelves, so now the big question is did I also read this one? Let’s take a look!

Apprentice to the Villain – Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Unread

I wanted to wait until we were closer to the release of book 3 because I was scared there was going to be another cliffhanger. And I was apparently right about the cliffhanger as you have read in Candyce’s part about this book haha. Book 3 is out already, so I should really read this one soon!

End Result:
Read: 0/1 – 0%
TBR: 1/0 – 100%

So that’s another looking back at our bookhauls post! Have you read any of these? Or do you track your books to see if you actually read what you buy? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.
