Yesterday Isabelle kicked off our lists of favorite 2020 reads with her favorite graphic novels/manga. Today I’m going to also talk about a favorite reads list, but today it’s the romance edition. In 2020 I read 83 romances (young adult & adult)! It was a hard choice to make, because 70 of these books were rated 4 stars or higher. Let’s take a look at my top 10 favorites!
I didn’t read this until near the end of the year, but I loved every minute of it. There’s a plus size main character, fan fiction, corny TV shows, a swoonworthy male lead, humor and also some serious issues. Once I started this book I just couldn’t put it down.
Today Tonight Tomorrow – Rachel Lynn Solomon
Another one I didn’t read until near the end of the year, but it was so good!! I listened to the audiobook and I think I was smiling quite awhile while listening. This book is everything I love in contemporary books and with romantic story lines. Yes, the main characters start out as “enemies”, but it was nice not to have them at each other’s throats during most of the book. I still need to write my full review for this one and that will happen soon.
The Reality of Everything – Rebecca Yarros
Rebecca Yarros is an author that always breaks my heart, but knows how to put it together again. The Reality of Everything was that kind of book. I loved the characters and the story. If you want amazing military romances I definitely recommend Rebecca Yarros.
LJ Evans has quickly climbed my list of favorite authors. She writes characters you really come to care about and she hits you in all the feels over and over again. Also, her books always incorporates music and this makes her stories even more special.
Kelsey Kingsley’s stories aren’t always something you can put into certain categories, but there are always romances you won’t forget. Warrior Blue was also a story that breaks your heart, but puts you all back together again. This book was released in a time
Brix is a tad bit arrogant and cocky character, but you can’t help but love him. There’s some baggage and tension between the two main characters, but that gives you a steamy romance you don’t want to put down. I’m impatiently waiting for the next book in this series.
I already talked about LJ Evans a couple of books ago, but both of these books deserve to be on this list. I read two others by her in 2020 as well, but then most of my list would be her (not that it would be a bad thing, haha). This story is more personal for the author and I could tell that it meant a lot to her while reading. Her stories are definitely ones I won’t forget.
Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes and Kevin van Whye did this in such a fun way! This book hit me in all the feels, made me laugh, swoon and wanting more. I love the fact that it’s not all light and fluffy either. I think I want to re-read this one in 2021.
My Salvation – Jennifer Hanks
Jennifer Hanks is an author that also makes you love her character so much! Her DiMarco series will always have a special place in my heart. Luckily some characters have cameos here! My Salvation is a second chance romance with some suspense as well and characters that I loved!
Teagan Hunter is an author I go to from romcoms. Her Texting series will always be my favorite, but I really enjoyed her Slice series as well. Cheesy on the Eyes is the last book in that series, but also had the character I was most looking forward to. Sully was always a bit mysterious, but he seemed like the sweetest guy and I was right. I loved this book.
Okay, so these are my top 10 romances of 2020 in no particular order. Romance is a genre I really love and there were some amazing ones last year. I hope 2021 is just as good for this genre. Did you read any amazing romances in 2020? Let me know in the comments! I’m always looking for more recommendations.
