We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is a Halloween freebie and I decided to go for Books I Want to Read for Halloween. I wrote this post a little bit in advance and I really hope I manage to read at least one or two of these before Halloween! Let’s take a look at the books I picked.
Escaping From Houdini – Kerri Maniscalco
I’m half way through the Stalking Jack the Ripper series and I think Halloween would be the perfect time to finish it haha. This book title is amazing and I hope I’m enjoying it at least as much as the previous book (but hopefully even a bit more).
Lair of Dreams – Libba Bray
I just got this book last week! The Diviners was such a great read (once I finally picked it up haha) and I was planning on continuing with the series right away. I’ll admit all the covers changes made it hard to decide which edition to order but I finally got Lair of Dreams. Hopefully it will be just as good as the first book!
The Cheerleaders – Kara Thomas
I read Little Monsters by Kara Thomas and that was a very solid mystery/thriller. Basically since then I’ve had this one on my shelves and I think this time of year is the perfect time to read mysteries. Look at that cover, there’s blood everywhere ;). That definitely increases my expectations haha.
Sawkill Girls – Claire LeGrand
This is actually a YA horror, so I’m a bit scared haha. I don’t read many horror books (and never watch horror movies haha), so it’s kinda weird I actually bought this. My bookish friends really seem to enjoy this one so I might just jump in soon!
The Damned – Renee Ahdieh
I LOVED The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh and I was so excited when I got an eARC for the sequel. Unfortunately I’ve been in a bit of a slump for the past months and I haven’t read this one yet. I did start it and I’m so excited to see where Renee will take us!
Vampires Never Get Old – Zoraida Córdova & Nathalie C. Parker
If I only read one story it will be the V.E. Schwab story haha. Hopefully you already heard this short story will be turned into a tv show and I’m so excited for that! There are a ton of great authors in this anthology so I hope there are some good stories in here.
Death Note Black Edition Vol III – Tsunami Ohba
This manga series is so good! I’ve read the first two volumes of the black edition, so that the first four volumes of the regular manga. And I’m very excited to continue on with this series. At some points I want to watch the anime and the movie but first I want to experience the whole series as a manga.
Strange Grace – Tessa Gratton
This seems like the perfect Halloween read! Melanie from MelToTheAny raves about this one non-stop and she is definitely the reason I bought this one haha. I hope it’s as good as she’s promising us because I have more Tessa Gratton on my wishlist!
Good Girl, Bad Blood – Holly Jackson
I really enjoyed A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. It was a super fast read and I immediately wanted to read the second book. Since then I haven’t actually picked it up but I do plan on reading it very soon, at least before the year is over. Hopefully this one is as good as the first on!
Home Before Dark – Riley Sager
I’ve read one book by Riley Sager and that was quite good! Home Before Dark is the newest release and exactly the type of book I like to read during this time of year. The reviews are really good and the synopsis sounds creepy in a very good way!
These are 10 books I would love to read this Halloween. Can we make Halloween two weeks long please? Have you read any of these? Or do you plan on reading them? And what are you reading for Halloween! Let me know down below!

That’s great to hear!
Not familiar with any of them, but I’m not that into this type of literature. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/10/ttt-102720.html
Great list! I LOVED Lair of Dreams, so I hope you enjoy it. I really want to read Sawkill Girls and Vampires Never Get Old, too–it’s really exciting to have so many vampire stories by authors of colour in one collection.
Ah, that makes me so excited for Lair of Dreams. It’s been eyeing me all week haha
Strange Grace sounds interesting.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

It really does, doesn’t it?
I didn’t realize Stalking Jack the Ripper was a series. Cool!

Yes! It’s four books and they’re all out so you can binge them in one go
I read The Cheerleaders last year, and I enjoyed it. Kara Thomas is one of my favorite murder mystery/spooky authors, she’s really good – – my favorite of hers is the Prep School Confidential trilogy, wherein she also used a pen name.
Oeh, I didn’t know that series was hers! Might have to pick that up as well. Can’t wait to read The Cheerleaders though
I can’t really read scary book cause I get scared SO easily! But that Vampire collection looks reallllllllllllllly good! I do love vampires.

Haha same!! I’m on the second vampire story and I’m already scared!!
I really should read Home before Dark! It constantly catches my attention.
You have an impressive list here. Hope you get to read them all soon!
Here’s my Should have, could have, would have Halloween reads
Thank you! I’m getting more and more excited for Home Before Dark
The Death Note anime is pretty good! I’m not sure if it strays from the manga much since I haven’t read it, but I enjoyed the spooky-ness of the show.
That’s good to know! Can’t wait to watch it 🙂
I need to continue with Maniscalo’s books. I read Stalking Jack the Ripper and just haven’t continued. IDK why I haven’t, I really enjoyed that one! Happy reading!
Haha crazy how that works right? Happy reading to you too!
A lot of great ones on there! I hope you get to read some of them soon.
Thanks!
Great list! I want to read quite a few of these as well. I’ve heard lots of good things about Home Before Dark but I’m not sure if I can handle that level of scary although I’m very curious 😂
Haha definitely something I need to read during the day. I scare so easily haha
I loved A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder too, I just got Good Girl, Bad Blood though I’m not sure when I’ll read it. I really enjoyed The Diviners series, I hope you enjoy the rest of the books. Also Escaping From Houdini was my favourite of the STJR series, definitely my favourite of that series.

Good to hear you enjoyed The Diviners, I’ve heard so many good things. And you’ve got me excited for Escaping From Houdini!
I’m not one for scary books either which is why I picked a new prompt this week. I enjoyed reading your post.
Thank you!
Just read your post as well! Great way to make the prompt your own, definitely fits 🙂
I don’t know about 2 weeks long, but you have 5 days. Maybe you could do some serious damage to this list anyways. 😉 Good luck!
Haha it was 2 weeks when I wrote the post! Let’s see what I can do in these last 5 days!
I bought The Sawkill Girls too, when it was on sale for $1.99. I still haven’t read it yet. Someday, I hope. I did read The Damned. I thought it was good, although they definitely need a third book to it (which I think they’re making).

Yes I believe there will be four books in that series! Happy to hear you enjoyed it. And that I’m not the only one who hasn’t read sawkill girls haha
I really wish I had gotten around to Vampires Never Get Old before Halloween because I’ve been so in the mood for some short fiction that matches the season. Home Before Dark looks great, too, and the last book of his I read was so wonderfully creepy.
