TTT #155| Books I Read Because Someone Recommended Them to Me

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books I Read Because Someone Recommended Them to Me. Bookish friends are a lot of fun, because of all the recommendations. Even if they can be overwhelming, haha. Here are some books I picked up after a friend recommended them!

The Infernal Devices – Cassandra Clare

A friend I met online is a big fan of these books and wouldn’t stop talking about them when I first started getting active in the bookish community. Buying this trilogy was one of the first steps of me reading more again and getting active online. I loved these books and I’m happy I picked them up.

Throne of Glass – Sarah J Maas

Another recommendation by the same friend as The Infernal Devices. I started with Throne of Glass when a readalong was organized for Empire of Storms. I flew through these books and I’m so happy I did. Throne of Glass has become one of my favorites series and the blog wouldn’t exist without them!

Three Dark Crowns – Kendare Blake

Isabelle actually recommended these books to me! We were with our group of bookish friends at a bookstore and I was debating if I should pick this one up or not. Isabelle wasn’t wrong. I love this series and really need to read the final book.

Every Heart a Doorway – Seanan McGuire

I’ve seen this series everywhere and I remembered the gorgeous covers. Recently we did a group readalong in the TBR and Beyond group of all five of the books out now. I’m so glad I joined. This series is unique and this author has an amazing way with words.

The Black Witch – Laurie Forest

For me The Black Witch is a hidden gem and really should be talked about more often. This was one of our monthly reads in the TBR and Beyond group and I was amazed by how good it was. At the moment, I’m reading the sequel and it’s still so good!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han

As a big contemporary fan, I couldn’t resist this trilogy after Isabelle talked about how much she loved it. I have to agree after reading them. I’ve even done a reread of the first two. The third one is on my list to reread soon.

Vicious – V.E. Schwab

V.E. Schwab actually got me to want to read this one. Isabelle and I went with a friend to see V.E. Schwab last year when she visited The Netherlands. During her interview, she was talking about how she wrote this duology and hearing about it made me order it as soon as I got home. It’s interesting to read about the villains.

The Black Flamingo – Dean Atta

After The Black Flamingo released I saw it everywhere online and heard about how good it was. So I listened to the audiobook and I’m so glad I did! The Black Flamingo is such an amazing book. I need to add the physical book to my collection though, because I’ve seen it and the book has amazing illustrations!

All the Stars and Teeth – Adalyn Grace

A few friends of mine had read this and really enjoyed it. All the Stars and Teeth sounded like my kind of story. Unfortunately, this one ended up disappointing me. I loved the idea, but the execution of the story just didn’t work for me.

Fence – C.S. Pacat

I’ve been loving graphic novels and Fence was one I saw everywhere online in the bookish world. Isabelle enjoyed it as well and I’m glad I picked it up. I’ve read the first two volumes and need to read more.

These are only a few of the many recommendations I’ve gotten and ended up reading! What books have you ended up picking up after someone recommended it? Let me know in the comments! Also, feel free to leave your TTT links as well.

  1. I love Vicious, one of my faves! I have a couple of friends who keep trying to get me to read the Shadowhunters books, but I’m not massively interested. I’m sad to hear All The Stars and Teeth didn’t work for you.

    1. The Shadowhunters books are definitely a commitment and if you’re not really interested it’s a hard one to give a go.
