Looking Back at Our Bookhauls| July 2019

As booklovers we both love buying books. That got us thinking… do we actually read the books we buy? That’s how this Looking Back at Our Bookhauls idea got started. It can be quite interesting to see what we’ve actually read and can make you run to your shelves to pick up the books you forgot about. Today let’s look back at our haul from July 2019! How did we do?

These posts are always scary to write, haha. Who knows how much of our hauls we’ve actually read, even though we have the best intentions to read everything we buy. In July 2019 I added 8 books to my collection (I bought 6 and received 2). Let’s take a look at how  I did!

White Hot Kiss, Stone Cold Touch & Every Last Breath

Luckily we start out with an easy one, haha. I’ve read all three of these and even did so before adding these to my shelves. These are the new covers and I love them so much more than the original (that I only had as e-book). So far I’ve done a reread of White Hot Kiss, need to pick up the others soon!

Wilder Girls – Rory Power

Wilder Girls was my introduction to YA horror. I really enjoyed this story, even if the ending did disappoint me a bit. If I remember correctly I read this in just about one day. I just couldn’t put it down. Rory Power’s new books Burn Our Bodies Down is now out in the world and I’ll be reading that one soon!

The Binding – Bridget Collins

How have I not read this stunning book yet?!? The Binding really needs to get moved up on my TBR soon. Even more so because this author will be releasing a new book in the next couple of months that also sounds really good!

Pages and Co: Tilly and the Bookwanderers – Anna James

Another one that I can’t believe I haven’t read yet. This middle grade book sounds so adorable and I’ve heard such amazing things. I will have to prioritize this one soon as well!

Crown of Conspiracy – Kara S. Weaver

Like I said in the haul post, one of my best friends wrote this book. I loved every minute of it and the sequel is available now as well. I’m now bugging her for the third book in this series, haha!

The Parallax – Morgan G. Farris

I’m still so glad that I have this signed copy on my shelf. The Parallax was so good and I’m impatiently waiting for the next book in Morgan’s series. I really recommend this series and it deserves so much hype!

End Result:
TBR: 2/8 – 25%
Read: 6/8 – 75%

Last year in July I added 5 new books to my TBR. A pretty decent amount but I hadn’t read any of the books at that time yet haha. So it was a bit scary to take a look and see what my stats were a year later haha. Let’s take a look!

Middlewest book one – Skottie Young

Skottie wrote the first graphic novel series I ever read (and loved!) so I was super excited to get Middlewest. I did read this one and while I didn’t love it as much as I loved the previous series I am intrigued and will want to read the sequel at some point.

Crown of Conspiracy – Kara S. Weaver

I’m so ashamed to say this, but I still haven’t read this one… Kara is a friend of mine and she is so lovely! She’s currently working on the third book in the series and I really plan on reading the first two books before that one is published. I’m a bit scared, I’ve heard great things about the first two books but also that I really want the next book haha.

Gotham Academy vol. 1 – Becky Cloonan

I was really excited for Gotham Academy, the story sounded amazing. Unfortunately I was a little bit underwhelmed by the story and I didn’t really love it. The ending did get me a bit more excited and I might pick up the sequel in the future. I really hate not knowing what happens next ;).

Record of a Spaceborn Few – Becky Chambers

I love Becky’s writing and adored the books I read by her so far. At the moment I have two unread books by her and I do really want to read them soon. I loved the first book in this series but the focus of the second and third book will be on different characters and that makes me a bit hesitant. Of course I will probably love it once again and I should just pick them up haha.

Godsgrave – Jay Kristoff
Currently Reading

I’m actually currently reading Godsgrave! After reading Nevernight I was super excited to read the sequel and I did read the first couple of chapters. However I put it down in favor of something else and hadn’t picked it back up again. Until last week! I’m currently completely engrossed in the story again and can’t wait to read more. Maybe I’ll even read the last book pretty soon after 😉

End Result:
TBR: 2/5 – 40%
Currently Reading: 1/5 – 20%
Read: 2/5 – 40%

So this was another looking back at our bookhauls! If you’ve read any of the books we still need to read, let us know in the comments what we should start with first. We’ll be back next month to look at the next haul.
