Looking Back At Our Bookhauls | June 2019

As booklovers we both love buying books. That got us thinking… do we actually read the books we buy? That’s how this Looking Back at Our Bookhauls idea got started. It can be quite interesting to see what we’ve actually read and can make you run to your shelves to pick up the books you forgot about. Today let’s look back at our haul from June 2019! How did we do?

It’s always scary to open our old bookhauls to see what we’ve read so far, haha. In June 2019 I added 8 books to my shelves. Apparently, I had already read two of them before writing my haul post, so that’s already pretty amazing. Let’s see how many have followed! If you can click on the title, that means a review has been posted (you’ll see the review when you click on it).

Killing November – Adriana Mather

Killing November was a book that surprised me in a really good way. The story sucked me right in from the start. The sequel, Hunting November, released recently, so I need to read that one ASAP!

The Might Heart of Sunny St. James – Ashley Herring Blake

I loved this book so much! The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James was such an emotional story, but the character development was amazing. I really loved the story line. I need to read more by Ashley Herring Blake.

These Witches Don’t Burn – Isabel Sterling

These Witches Don’t Burn is a book I’ve read twice now. Once last year and again last month. I enjoyed the story, but definitely needed a bit more magic. The sequel is also out in the world and I’ve read it. I enjoyed that one a bit more and came to love the characters.

Dance of Thieves – Mary E. Pearson

I really need to read Dance of Thieves! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book and even own the sequel. It’s definitely time to give it a go!

The Wizards of Once – Cressida Cowell

Another one I really need to see soon. I got the sequel for Christmas last year and this book looks so pretty. Even though I do think that this is more of a Halloween read, so I may wait a couple of months!

The Modern Faerie Tales – Holly Black

I didn’t count this one as completely read, because I’ve only read the first book Tithe. Unfortunately, I did not like this book at all. The concept of the story was pretty interesting, but I disliked the main character so much. I’ve heard that the second and third book are better, so I will give them a go. Eventually…

1/3 Read

Storm and Fury – Jennifer L. Armentrout

I read this one recently and loved it! It was a case of why didn’t I read this one sooner!! Storm and Fury was a worthy start of this spinoff series. I’ve even read the sequel, Rage and Ruin, and can really recommend both of these books!

Vengeance of Hope – P.J. Berman

I really need to get to this one. This is one I won and it sounds really interesting. The author is really sweet, so I need to review this one ASAP!

End Result:
TBR: 4/8 – 50%
Read: 4/8- 50%

The last two months were pretty easy ones since I didn’t buy that many books. But it isn’t realistic to expect another month without a ton of books is it? Haha. So like Candyce, I was a bit scared to look at last years haul. And rightfully so ;). I added 7 books to my TBR and I’m pretty sure I didn’t read all of them. Let’s take a look!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer vol. 1: High School is Hell – Josh Whedon, Jordie Bellaire, Dan Mora & Raul Angulo

So we’re starting off pretty good! I read this Buffy comic pretty soon after I got it and actually reviewed it before the bookhaul was posted. This was such a fun read and I planned on continuing with the series. At the moment there are two more volumes out so I hope to buy them soon.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black

I got this from a friend who was getting rid of her copy and I wanted to read it for quite awhile now. Anddd I still want to read it haha. After a couple amazing and a very disappointing read by Holly Black I’m scared this one might be a bit disappointing as well. I still plan on reading it though!

The Modern Faerie Tales – Holly Black
1/3 read

Like Candyce I only read the first book in this bind-up. And it was a disappointment haha. I haven’t read the other two book yet because I just didn’t feel like it yet. Hopefully I will like the other two better. The books aren’t that long so I do plan on trying again this year.

The Witch’s House 1 – Fummy & Yuna Kagesaki

I didn’t know this was a horror story when I bought the book but I quickly learned it was when it arrived. Since I scare very easily I haven’t been inclined to pick this one up yet haha. This might be my Halloween read for this year!

Scales & Scoundrels vol. 1: Into the Dragon’s Maw – Girner, Galaad & Powell

I read and really enjoyed this comic! And I already bought the second one as well. This isn’t the best series out there but it is a ton of fun and sometimes that all you need in a book or a comic.

Jughead the Hunger vol. 1 – Frank Tieri & Michael Walsh

I was so excited to get this one! Jughead is my favorite Riverdale character and I love everything that features him. After writing this post I want to pick up the book very badly haha.

Fruits Basket the Collectors Edition 1 – Natsuki Takaya

I read and loved this one! This series is so incredibly cute and the next couple of volumes are very high on my wishlist. I adore this manga a lot and need to continue watching the anime as well!

End Result:
TBR: 4/7 – 57%
Read: 3/7- 43%

So that’s another look at what we’ve bought and read in June 2019. Have you read any that we haven’t yet? What did you think? We’d love to hear what you think!
