Bookhaul | June 2019

And we’re officially half way done with 2019. July started today and that means we’re ready to share our June Bookhaul. The last 2 months we both have been pretty good with not buying allll the books! So let’s take a look and see what this month brought!

Candyce

I’ve been doing really good the past few months with adding books to my collection. In June I bought 7 books and received 1 book. A total of 8 books and I’ve already read two of them! I am pretty proud of that. Let’s take a look at what books I added to my shelves this month.

Killing November – Adriana Mather

This book was going to be a TBR & Beyond read and I was really interested in the story. A boarding school and students turning up dead! Killing November is one of the books I’ve already read and I read it in two sitting. My review will be up soon and I will definitely be reading the second book.

The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James – Ashley Herring Blake

Another TBR & Beyond group read and I am so happy I read this one! Ashley Herring Blake is an author I’ve heard so many good things about and if her other books are anything like this one, I will be very happy. For a middle grade book, the author tackles some difficult subjects and did that in an amazing way!

These Witches Don’t Burn – Isabel Sterling

I actually received this book in May, but the book was so damaged I had to send my copy back. At the beginning of June I got my new book and was really happy to see it wasn’t ripped up like the first one. These Witches Don’t Burn takes place in Salem and sounds like a lot of fun. This book is on my July TBR, so I will tell you about it soon!

Dance of Thieves – Mary E. Pearson

After finishing The Remnant Chronicles, I was excited about this spinoff. It released almost a year ago, but I was going to wait for the paperback to be released. That changed when a readalong was announced, because the second book will be out soon. In the end I’m happy I bought the hardcover, because the spin is gorgeous.

The Wizards of Once – Cressida Cowell

The third book if this series recently popped up on Netgalley and I thought I owned the first book. So I went to look on my shelves and realized I didn’t have The Wizards of Once. I needed to change that and ordered the paperback. It’s gorgeous!! And I just realized that Cressida Cowell also wrote the How to Train Your Dragon book.

The Modern Faerie Tales – Holly Black

The Cruel Prince has been on my shelf since release day, but yet another book that had to wait because of the well known, so many books, so little time. Until Isabelle and I saw Faerieathon. Last month they started reading the first book in this edition. We’ll have to catch up this month, but it will lead us right into reading The Cruel Prince. I missed these book when they were first published, so I’m pretty curious!

Storm & Fury – Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Dark Elements was so much fun and I was excited with the author announced this spinoff. Look how gorgeous this cover is as well! I will be reading these soon, but first I will be doing a reread of The Dark Elements with a friend who hasn’t read them yet.

Vengeance of Hope – P.J. Berman

An author contacted me awhile ago to ask if I wanted to read and review his book. The book sounded really interesting, so he was kind enough to send me the paperback. Vengeance of Hope sounds really interesting. You’ll definitely be able to read my review soon!

Isabelle

I added 7 books to my collection this month. Of those 7 I have only read 1 so far, but I do plan on reading a couple more this month. It’s not too bad of a bookhaul right? Most of the books are graphic novels and manga and I always feel less bad about those because I usually read them quite quickly so they don’t up my TBR as much as regular novels do haha. Let’s see which 7 books I got this June.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer vol. 1: High School is Hell – Josh Whedon, Jordie Bellaire, Dan Mora & Raul Angulo

I started watching Buffy not too long ago and I have only seen the first season yet. There used to be Buffy comics and I do own the first one of those, but they are set after the tv show so I haven’t read it yet because I don’t want to spoil myself. These new comics however, are starting at the beginning so I had to get the first volume as soon as it was published. I already read this one and am looking forward to the second volume. Also, doesn’t that cover look amazing?

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black

I have only read books Holly Black co-authored but I plan on changing that soon. Candyce and I belong to the very small group of YA readers that haven’t read The Cruel Prince yet but we’re going to participate in the Holly Black faerie readalong (hence the next book). The Coldest Girl in Coldtown had been on my wishlist forever, so when a friend of ours was getting rid of her copy I gladly took it off her hands. Hopefully it will live up to the Holly Black hype!

The Modern Faerie Tales – Holly Black

Like I said, Candyce and I are participating in the Holly Black Faerieathon. We started a bit late so this month we have to read the first two books in this bindup. I believe Holly rewrote these books slightly and I’m very curious to see what all the fuss is about. After this trilogy we will start with the Folk of the Air trilogy and I believe both trilogies are set in the same world. Can’t wait to dive in!

The Witch’s House 1 – Fummy & Yuna Kagesaki

This manga had been on my wishlist for awhile so when I ordered The Modern Faerietales I decided to get a couple more books. As one does when ordering books haha. And I finally got The Witch’s House. When it arrived however, I realized this was a horror story. So I have been a little scared to pick it up haha. I will have to read this during the day at some point!

Scales & Scoundrels vol. 1: Into the Dragon’s Maw – Girner, Galaad & Powell

This comic series is supposed to be a mix between D&D and Studio Ghibli. I’m loving D&D since we started playing recently but I haven’t seen much from Studio Ghibli yet. The art always looks gorgeous though so I’m super curious about this. I think it will be a fun fantasy series. The third volume releases tomorrow so I’m not too far behind.

Jughead the Hunger vol. 1 – Frank Tieri & Michael Walsh

I read the first issue of Jughead the Hunger in The Archies and other Stories. It was a fun and interesting first issue so I decided to get the complete first volume to check out more of this series. I love the Riverdale world and would love to read everything set in it haha. And I think I’m slowly building quite the collection. Hopefully I can read this one sometime this month!

Fruits Basket the Collectors Edition 1 – Natsuki Takaya

And last but definitely not least, I finally got Fruits Basket 1. I have had this one on my wishlist for so long! But it was quite expensive, as its a pretty big collection, and I wasn’t sure if it would be for me. So when I came across the anime, I decided to watch the first episode. Turns out, I enjoyed it A LOT. So I immediately ordered this first one in the manga series and plan on starting it today!

These were all the books we got this month. Have you read any of them? Or do you have some of them on your own wishlist? Let us know in the comments!
