Bookish Item | Ranking the Harry Potter Books

Its nice to have something to comfort you in these trying times, and for me Harry Potter has been one of those things. I adore the series (and the whole wizarding world) with my whole heart. But of course we can’t love all 7 books entirely equally. So today I wanted to show you all my ranking of the Harry Potter books. Let’s dive in!
There will be spoilers 😉 Just in case haha.

7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

When I was younger I would reread the Harry Potter books all the time. Before a new one was released I would reread all of them and after reading the newest book I would do it all over haha. But whenever I did that, I always skipped this one. I think it’s because I’m terrified of spiders and just thinking of this one gives me the creeps haha.

6. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

While this book has some amazing scenes (like the Fred and George leaving the school) it also has a couple of my least favorite things. I got so annoyed with Harry from the first time I read this one. While I get why Harry acts the way he does, I couldn’t stand him. He was shouting all the time and blaming everyone for all kinds of nonsense. I of course also hated Umbridge and the death that occurs in here breaks my heart every time I reread the books. Also, there wasn’t nearly enough quidditch in there with Harry being banned almost immediately.

5. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

It got a bit harder to pick numbers 5 & 4! I think 1-3 were pretty much locked in but these two were pretty close. What annoyed me the most was probably how obsessed Harry was with whatever Draco was doing. I know he was right, but I can’t believe he almost missed a quidditch match so he could follow him. And then he actually did miss the last match thanks to that stupid bathroom fight. I hate it when we miss out on quidditch matches, it’s one of my absolute favorite things in the wizarding world. The lessons with Dumbledore and liquid luck were some of my favorite things in this one. This was also the first one I read in English! I just couldn’t wait until the translation was published haha.

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The ending of the series, it was bittersweet reading this one of the first time. I think it was a great ending but I balled my eyes out at some of the deaths. And I still do whenever I reread the series. I loved seeing some of the different places in the wizarding world in this one. Some of the things came quite easily to the characters. It took Dumbledore quite some time (and a blackened hand) to get just 1 horcrux but the Golden Trio managed to find the rest in just one year? A bit unlikely but we’ll just go with it 😉

3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

The original one! I fell in love with the series right away. This book is pure nostalgia and I love it so so much. Just being in this world is wonderful and I feel like this book is almost perfect. I know it isn’t perfect (because it’s way to short) but I don’t have anything bad to say.

2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I think this used to be my favorite for the longest time! It’s nice to deviate a bit from Voldemort, he doesn’t have as much of a presence in this book. Also, Sirius is one of my favorite characters and I loved getting to know him in this. This is also the last book that feels innocent, everything gets so real after this one.

1.Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

My number one Harry Potter book! I love competitions and stuff like that in books so of course the Triwizard Tournament is a favorite. It was wonderful seeing Harry go trough the tasks. I mentioned before I love quidditch and the world cup was amazing to read about, loved those chapters so much. And the ending of the book was pretty much the start of the big ‘fight’. This is were it truly started. I could reread this one over and over again (and have been doing so for the last couple of years haha).

And that is my ranking of the Harry Potter books! How would you rank them? I’m thinking of also ranking the movies, because I can already tell you that would be a completely different ranking!

  1. love your ranking!! POA is my fave but GOF is definitely a fantastic choice – the competitions is just brilliant!! 😊💜

    1. I had to make some hard choices! I mean, they’re all 5 star reads obviously!

  2. Great ranking!! I think mine would be a bit different. Not 100% sure yet how exactly but our absolute favorite is similar at least. Book 4 is my fave as well. The Triwizard tournament is one of the best things that’s written about in the entire series I think.

    1. Thanks! Yes, I adore the Triwizard Tournament and the World Cup so so much, I could read that book over and over. It’s pretty difficult to actually write down a ranking!
