We wanted to do another bookish meme on Wednesday and after doing Can’t Wait Wednesday a few times we decided that would be a fun one to bring around more often! About twice a month you’ll see this meme on our blog.
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
New York Times bestselling author Megan McCafferty returns to her roots with this YA coming of age story set in a New Jersey mall.
The year is 1991. Scrunchies, mixtapes and 90210 are, like, totally fresh. Cassie Worthy is psyched to spend the summer after graduation working at the Parkway Center Mall. In six weeks, she and her boyfriend head off to college in NYC to fulfill The Plan: higher education and happily ever after.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans...
Set entirely in a classic “monument to consumerism,” the novel follows Cassie as she finds friendship, love, and ultimately herself, in the most unexpected of places. Megan McCafferty, beloved New York Times bestselling author of the Jessica Darling series, takes readers on an epic trip back in time to The Mall.

I was only 3 in 1991, but I definitely remember the American malls in the late ’90s. When I moved to The Netherlands when I was 13 in 2001, I’d definitely made many trips to the mall with friends. Also, the fact that this book takes place in New Jersey is a lot of fun, because I lived on the East Coast as well.
The Mall seems like it’s going to be a story with a lot of aspects that will seem very familiar. I have a feeling I’m going to end up really wanting to visit a mall after reading this book. Reading books that you can really connect with are always so much fun. It takes the whole reading experience to a whole new level.
I was lucky to be able to grab The Mall on Netgalley when it was Read Now. It seems like it will be the perfect read to get distracted with now that things aren’t that pleasant in the world. Have you heard of The Mall before? Will you be picking it up? Let me know in the comments!
OMG a new Megan McCafferty novel! I’m a huge fan of the Jessica Darling series so I know I’m just going to love this one! Thanks for posting about this book! Now I can’t wait for it to come out. Great pick!

Oh! I didn’t know Megan McCafferty had other books. I’ll definitely have to look that up!
This sounds like an adorable story. And that cover is so eye-catching! It reminds of that HIMYM episode where RObin turns out to have been a young Canadian pop star and sings about going to the mall! SO funny.
I totally forgot about that episode, haha. I definitely see that now.
