Looking Back at Our Bookhauls| February 2019

It’s that time of month again to look back at one of our previous bookhauls. This month it’s time for February 2019. We’re away from Christmas, but right before our birthdays, so let’s see how we did! What books did we collect and what have we read since then?

Candyce

In February 2019 I added six books to my collection. I bought five of them and received one from an author. This isn’t a big amount of books and I am hoping I’ve read at least a few of them, haha. Let’s take a look!

The Wicker King – K. Ancrum

I actually read this book pretty soon after buying it. The Wicker King was a lot different than expected, but really good. It was really interesting to see how the layout played a big part in this book. I still need to buy the sequel and I’m hoping it’s just as good!

Read

On the Come Up – Angie Thomas

Another book I read quickly after buying it. We did this as a group read in the TBR & Beyond group last year. I still need to read The Hate U Give, but I was so impressed with On the Come Up! It’s an intense read, but so good. I’m actually sad that this was a standalone. I’d love to know how the main character’s story continues.

Read

A Curse so Dark and Lonely – Brigid Kemmerer

I didn’t read this one right away, but I was so happy once I did. A Curse so Dark and Lonely is an amazing Beauty and the Beast retelling and I loved every minute of it. The sequel is already out and I really need to make time for it soon!

Read

King of Scars – Leigh Bardugo

It’s actually shocking that I haven’t picked this one up yet. I made sure to read the Grishaverse trilogy in January before King of Scars was released. This year that will change though, because something Isabelle and I are working on for the blog involves this book, so keep an eye out!

Unread

Slayer – Kiersten White

As a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, I was really excited about Slayer. For some reason I haven’t gotten to it yet. Maybe because there are so many mixed reviews. A few friends who have read it were disappointed. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it.

Unread

The Pirate Princess – K.R. Martin

I actually started reading this book, but didn’t end up finishing it, but why I don’t know. As far as I can remember I was really enjoying it. I will have to pick this one up again really soon.

Unread

End Result:
Read: 3/6 – 50%
TBR: 3/6 – 50%

Isabelle

Almost as soon as 2019 started I forgot about my book buying rules haha. So I added 7 books in February 2019. Three graphic novels, one gorgeous hardback from a bookbox and three paperbacks. Let’s see how many I managed to read!

King of Scars – Leigh Bardugo
Read

I had been looking forward to King of Scars for quite a while and I was so happy with this gorgeous edition! For once I did immediately read it and I loved it! I can’t wait for the sequel, which we’ll probably get next year.

Heartstopper vol. 1 – Alice Oseman
Read

This was my Valentine’s read last year! And I absolutely loved it. This year I read volume three on Valentine’s Day and once again loved it. I adore this series with my whole heart and I can’t wait to read the next ones. The story is super cute but also talks about important topics.

Deadly Class vol 2 & 3 – Rick Remender
Read

This reminds me I have to get back to this series! I loved all three volumes and adored the tv show. It so sad they cancelled the tv show after just one season. This series is pretty brutal and graphic but I enjoy reading about these characters so much.

Enchantee – Gita Trelease
Unread

My friends are pretty divided about this one, some DNF’d it other gave it 4 or 5 stars. I haven’t really felt the urge to pick it up just yet. Maybe I’ll use this in another try a chapter tag.

A Curse so Dark and Lonely – Brigid Kemmerer
Unread

Candyce will be so mad I still haven’t read this yet haha. I did start it last year but wasn’t sucked in right away and put it down in favor of something else. Candyce and I have a new project we’ll be starting soon and I will be reading this one then!

The Girl King – Mimi Yu
Unread

Candyce and I planned on doing a buddy read for this one and I failed miserably haha. After reading about two chapters I put it down in favor of something else and I haven’t picked it up since. ┬áThis is another one where my friends are quite divided but most seemed to really enjoy it!

End Result:
Read: 4/7 – 57%
TBR: 3/7 – 43%

So this was another month looking back at our bookhauls. It’s still interesting to see what we actually read after buying books. Have you read any of these? Let us know in the comments!
