Review Blast| Sex and Other Shiny Objects – Lauren Blakely

After reading Asking for a Friend, I couldn’t wait for the next book in the Boyfriend Material series. Sex and Other Shiny Objects is the next book in the series and was released on Monday. I can definitely say the title caught my attention. Today I want to tell you what I thought about this book.

A big thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC to read and review!

The second the test-the-sexy-scenes offer landed in my lap, I said yes.

After all, I’ve been damn curious about a few things I’ve read in romance novels. Do buttons truly go flying across the floor when you rip off a guy’s shirt? Is staircase sex hella hot or does it leave you with a big old bruise mark on your back? And don’t even get me started on all that panty shredding, and whether it even works.

Time to find out as I embark on Project Sexy Scenes Research, at the request of my hotshot book editor bestie.

All I need is a willing scene partner. Enter Tristan, my best guy friend. The witty, tell-it-like-it-is, bearded hottie volunteers for the experiment.

He’s also the guy who gave me the most devastating, toe-curling kiss of my life ten years ago. But nothing has happened since then.
And nothing will come between my panties and our friendship now since we have a plan to keep it PG.
But once the buttons start flying, all bets are off…

“This book was the perfect way to start my 2020. Sex and Other Shiny Objects left me with a grin on my face and my heart is still sighing when I think of it.”

~ Melissa, Goodreads

“These stories from the Boyfriend Material series just keep getting better and better. Just when you think Lauren can’t write a better story, she goes and does it.”

– Joanne on Goodreads

“I absolutely loved this storyline and often wondered if popping buttons and bathtub hijinks were really feasible. The way that Ms. Blakely presents it is fresh, funny and uncomfortably real!”

~Bibliophile Chloe

Sometimes you just need a book that makes you laugh out loud and feel good at the end. Sex and Other Shiny Objects was definitely one of these books. If you’ve ever wondered if the sexy scenes in romance books are possible or work, this book gives us a fun take on that.

Peyton owns her own store and sells all types of undergarments. I love her take on this. Don’t wear them for a man, but wear something that makes you feel sexy and confident. The description of all of the things she sells us was a lot of fun. She had her heart broken and is finally comfortable with herself and maybe even ready to date. Her look on life is interesting and her group of friends is amazing.

Tristan and Peyton have been best friends for years. His life has been full of changes and since losing his parents, he’s been taking care of his brother. I have to say besides the romance, the moments we got between these two were really special. I wouldn’t mind if the author gave us a book about his brother! Tristan is really a family man and earns his spot of the book boyfriend list.

When Peyton is asked to be the one to test out different scenes from a romance book, Tristan is the one who partners up with her. It was so much fun reading about characters trying out different romantic scenes from romance books. This seemed really realistic and fun to read about. It was fun seeing them get closer and it was clear there was more than just being friends to this whole situation, but neither of them wanted to admit this.

If you’re looking for a fast and fun romance, I definitely recommend picking up this story. Sex and Other Shiny Objects gives us humor, amazing characters, sexy scenes and ones that make you swoon. This book doesn’t have a lot of angst or drama and the pacing is nice! I also loved the fact that Peyton had a blog. The posts were a lot of fun to read! If you’re wondering if some romance scences are realistic, this book will let you know!
