Looking Back At Our Bookhauls | August 2018

Every month we add books to our collections, but we’ve been curious about how much of them we actually read. In Looking Back at Our Bookhauls, we take a look at our hauls from the year before. What have we read and what do we still need to read? We hope this motivates us more to get to our unread books and maybe buy a little less. Even if this doesn’t always work, haha. Today we’re looking back at our book hauls from August 2018!

I was actually a good girl in August 2018 and only added four books to my collection! I hope with only adding four I’ve at least read a few, let’s see!

Catman:Soulstealer – Sarah J. Maas

I’m actually shocked that I haven’t read this one yet! Sarah J. Maas is a favorite author of mine. I have to say I’ve heard some mixed reviews about this one, so I think that’s why I haven’t picked it up yet. At least I know my expectations won’t be too high when I finally read it.

Mara Dyer Trilogy – Michelle Hodkin

Technically I can count these books as ones that I’ve read before. As you’ll see in the haul post, I’ve already read these as e-books, but a friend of ours didn’t want these anymore. I really enjoyed this trilogy, so I was happy to add them to my shelves. Even though I’ve been planning on rereading them, it hasn’t happened yet. So I still need to read the physical books again, but I’ve technically read the story before!

End Result:
Read: 3/4 – 75%
Unread: 1/4 – 25%

Last August I went to London for a week and whenever I’m in London I want to buy allll the books haha. I got a bunch of signed books so I’ve got a pretty good haul 😉

Catwoman: Soulstealer – Sarah J. Maas

I can’t believe I have an unread Sarah J. Maas book on my shelves! But I have to admit it’s true haha. And it’s even a signed edition! While I love SJM I’m a bit hesitant about this one, I didn’t love Leigh Bardugo’s Wonder Woman in this series and I’m scared this will be a disappointment too. But I am interested in this story so I do plan on reading it soonish.

City of Ghosts – Victoria Schwab

I read and loved this one right away! As soon as I got this during my London trip last year I started reading it haha. The sequel released last week and I listened to the audiobook right away. This is such a wonderful creepy mg ghost story and I’m already looking forward to book 3, Bridge of Souls.

Spinning Silver – Naomi Novik

I absolutely loved Uprooted by Naomi Novik and was so happy to get my hands on this signed hardcover of Spinning Silver. My expectations are pretty high and I’ve seen some mixed reviews so I’m a bit scared actually haha. I want to love this so badly!

The Secret Deep – Lindsay Galvin

Another signed copy! I hadn’t heard of this one before but it seems to be a middle grade story and I really like reading MG. The cover looks so nice and lately I’ve been wanting to read something water related!

White Rabbit Red Wolf – Tom Pollock

I had heard of this one before and when I found this signed copy I was pretty excited. If I’m being honest, I forgot what this one was about and that means I probably won’t pick it up any time soon.

Orphan Monster Spy – Matt Killeen

This is a historical fiction and is set during WWII, one of my favorite historical settings to read about. I just saw there will be a sequel out early 2020 so I really want to read this one before that!

The Fix Vol. 1: Where Beagles Dare – Nick Spencer & Steve Lieber

I haven’t even taken this one out of the plastic hahaha. Partly because I want to have that signed drawing with the comic because I’m scared I’ll lose it haha. And probably also because I’m lazy haha.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Long Way Home (Season 8 #1) – Joss Whedon & Georges Jeanty

This follows after the tv shows ends I believe so I first have to continue watching the show before I can read it! But it’s quite hard to get a hold off so I decided to buy it when I saw it!

Locke & Key Vol. 3: Head Games – Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriquez

I love these creepy graphic novels!! If they weren’t so expensive I would’ve gotten the whole series by now haha.

Fables Vol. 2 – Animal Farm – Bill Willingham

I really enjoy the Fables comics series and can’t wait to read the rest of it! This is such a fun adult series with all of your favorite fairytale characters.

Snotgirl Vol. 2: California Screaming – Bryan Lee O’Malley & Leslie Hung

I really enjoyed vol 1 of Snotgirl but I’m still not sure what to think of this second volume. And I have to say I don’t know if I will get the third volume. I had higher hopes of this comic but I might just give it one last chance.

These Rebel Waves – Sara Raasch

This one was part of my try a chapter book tag but I haven’t read it yet! I do really want to read it after enjoying the first chapter and I’m excited to see where this story will take me.

End Result
Read: 4/12  33%
Unread: 8/12  66%

This was an interesting month for both of us, haha. We both need to get going on our TBR! Have you read any of the books we haven’t been able to get to from our hauls? Which ones should we start with first? Let us know in the comments!

  1. I don’t think I would want to check back on my hauls. I doubt I ever have a month that I’ve read even 30% of what I’ve bought (even starting back years ago). I’m horrible.

    1. Yeah, it’s really cute. I’m definitely happy it didn’t stop at one book!
