I have read books from K.A. Linde before and they were amazing romances with swoon-worthy bookboyfriends. After hearing about Blood Type, I was very curious. Could she pull off writing something with paranormal elements? I signed up for this blog tour and was happy to have receive a copy to review. If you want to know if the book met up to my expectations, continue reading!
A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.
For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.
In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.
Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.
For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.
Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

Review
Cover While this cover is appealing, I still don’t like covers with people. To be honest, after reading this book I have a different vision of Beckham in my mind. I rather imagine these characters on my own.
Plot I wasn’t really sure what to think of this author writing a paranormal romance, but she left me wanting more. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book with a vampire and I was impressed. Beckham is definitely a vampire I would want to meet. The world in this book isn’t the greatest, the fact that you have to become a blood escort to really even make a living is really sad. There is so much poverty. It’s really sad. This book wasn’t just about romance, but with a lot of politics as well. Besides the relationship growing between Beckham and Reyna, there is a lot going on. They want to make a blood consensus. That seems like a big impact on privacy. While it seeems like Beckham is all for everything, there is a lot more going on. I definitely wouldn’t want to visit The Vault. The only reason Reyna is doing this is to help her brothers. I wish we would’ve seen more of them. Who knows? Maybe we will in the next book. Most of the book is building to something, but the last part is non stop action. This book had me on the edge of my seat wanting more! I knew it would end with a cliffhanger, but that was not what I was expecting. If you like romance, with some politics and soms twists, this is definitely a book for you!
Characters Reyna doesn’t want to be a burden to her brothers anymore. She never got to go to college and just can’t seem to find a job. Eating normally isn’t an option and she just isn’t happy. What makes her brave is going to Visage and becoming something she doesn’t want to be. Only to take care of her family. In other ways she’s too innocent. Reyna is pretty clueless to a lot of the world, but on the other side she’s not afraid to speak her mind. A lot of times she won’t stop asking questions or keep her mouth shut when it’s clear she needs to. All she wants is a fair world for everyone. Her gut is telling her something is off and she’s definitely right.
Beckham is very quiet in the beginning and doesn’t seem very nice. It’s clear that he’s attracted to Reyna. He gvies in and then pulls back so often, he started annoying me, haha. The more we read, the more we learn about him. There is definitely more to him than meets the eye. Beckham is not your typical vampire and has other values than many of them do. He’s actually very protective and doesn’t want to admit to his feelings. He’s afraid he’s going to far, but there’s just something about Reyna he can’t let go. At the end we learn he’s been hiding quite a bit and I can’t wait to see how this plays out.
Rowland is creepy, that’s all I really have to say about him, haha.
Evertt is a character I’m not sure about. He seems really sweet and even though Reyna doesn’t feel the same way, he does like her. I trusted him and thought he was a good guy, but certain things happened that make me doubt that now.
