How I Met My Book #11 | A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas

We were looking for something to post on Sundays when we don’t have anything planned. Then I saw a post on Early Bookish Bird‘s blog and it seemed like the perfect fit. She started #howimetmybook so we’re alternating between #howimetmybook and Down the TBR hole on Sundays from now on!

In this post we tell the story behind our books. The following questions will be answered: Where did we get the book? Why did we pick it up? What made us pick it up in the first place?

I was looking at my bookshelves for a book with a good story for this article and the moment I saw A Court of Thorns and Roses I knew that was the book for today!

Oops, so much
merch!

I read the first three books in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas and was a big fan! When I was living in London I discovered bookdepository.com and saw that A Court of Thorns and Roses was available for pre order. Since I loved Sarah’s other books and this was marketed as a Beauty and the Beast retelling I knew I had to get it. I don’t think I had read any BatB retellings prior to this one I was really intrigued as that is my absolute favorite Disney story.

As soon as I got an email saying my book was shipped I checked my mailbox at the uni every day until I had the book in my hands haha. I loved the cover right away and started reading the book probably before I even got home. Unfortunately I wasn’t sucked into the story immediately. While I really enjoyed the book, I gave it 4 stars, it wasn’t as good as the ToG series in my opinion. I definitely liked it enough to want to continue with the story – forever happy that I did – but as I said, it wasn’t a favorite.

Look at that beautiful cover!

After I got back from London, ACOTAR was translated in Dutch and all of a sudden the book was everywhere. It got pretty hyped here and everyone was completely in love with the story. I must say I was a bit surprised. It was great seeing so many people reading this book and this author but I did think it was a bit overhyped.

All in all I really like this series, especially the second book! I would urge everyone to pick it up. But if you just want to pick up one Sarah J Maas series I will forever recommend Throne of Glass haha. Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Let me know in the comments!
