Looking Back at Our Bookhauls | April 2024

Today’s post is always the scariest of the month, haha. Do we actually read the books we buy? We’ll be looking back at our April 2024 bookhaul to find out. Let’s take a look at how we did!

Candyce

I have a feeling this month’s looking back at our bookhaul is going to be rough, haha. In April 2024, I added 24 books to my shelves. How many have I read? Let’s find out!

Romantic Comedy – Curtis Sittenfeld
Unread

I still want to read Romantic Comedy. This book has a lot of emails and such throughout the story. I love when books include that type of thing. I also still love floppy paperbacks, haha.

Otherworldly – F.T. Lukens
Unread

All of F.T. Lukens’ books have interested me, yet I still haven’t read one. I really need to change that this year. I own Otherworldly and In Deeper Waters. Many people seem to love their books!

The Poisons We Drink – Bethany Baptiste
Unread

I’m not doing too well so far during this looking back at our bookhauls post, but The Poisons We Drink is another one I haven’t read yet. The concept of making love potions being painful and maybe even deadly still sounds very intriguing.

Where the Dark Stands Still – A.B. Poranek
Unread

I still think this sounds like a book that sounds perfect for a rainy day. Folklore and retelling vibes? Yes, please!

When Women Were Dragons – Kelly Barnhill
Read

When Women Were Dragons was my book club read last year. It has some plot holes, but overall it was enjoyable. I loved the concept and it kept me hooked while reading.

Girl Abroad – Elle Kennedy
Read

Elle Kennedy is an author I first started reading when romance started interesting me. Girl Abroad wasn’t my favorite book she’s written, but it was enjoyable. It was a fast and fun read!

The Book of Doors – Gareth Brown
Unread

As you can see in our bookhaul, I was going to buddy read this with a friend. That didn’t end up happening, haha. I actually forgot that was planned. I should see if she’s read this one yet.

The Will of the Many – James Islington
Unread

I actually read the first 50 pages of The Will of the Many and then I got distracted by other books. Since then I’ve seen nothing but amazing reviews about this book. The sequel releases later this year, so I’m determined to sit down and read The Will of the Many.

Sanctuary of the Shadow – Aurora Ascher

Apparently, I had many buddy reads scheduled last year that never happened, haha, Sanctuary of the Shadow is still unread. I’m still curious about this one, but a lot of mixed reviews do have me wondering if I’ll end up enjoying this one. I guess we’ll find out!

Wild Love – Elsie Silver
Read

Elsie Silver has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Wild Love is a best friend’s sister romance and finding out about an unexpected child. This romance was everything I wanted. It had me laughing out loud, but also shedding some tears.

My Dark Desire – L.J. Shen & Parker S. Huntington
Unread

Last year I read the first book in the Dark Prince Road trilogy, and it was a fun time! I love the covers of this trilogy, so I had to buy My Dark Desire. This is a Cinderella reimagining/retelling. Zach definitely had me curious after meeting him in the first book. I’ll have to dive into this one soon.

The Rule Book – Sarah Adams
Read

The Rule Book is an enemies to lovers, second chance romance and it was so good! At first, I was a bit annoyed. Derek really just wanted to make it impossible for Nora to do her job. When that part passed and they actually started working together, I really enjoyed what I read.

Cat + Gamer Vol. 4 – Wataru Nadatani
Read

Of course I had to read the next volume in the Cat + Gamer world. This is such an easy read, but I love seeing our main character love gaming and her two cats. I’m sad that the last volume is being released this year.

A Condition Called Love Vol. 1-3 – Megumi Morino
Read

Since getting the first three volumes of this manga, I have read 8 volumes of this story and have ended up in part of the story we don’t see in the anime. It’s been interesting so far and definitely has some twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. I have four of five more volumes to read at the moment.

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas – Yoru Sumino
Unread

The title is what pulled me in, but I know it’s going to be sad. I think that’s why I’ve been hesitant picking it up. Even though I know I’m going to probably love this manga.

Powerful – Lauren Roberts
Read

Powerless was a bit of a let down for me, but I was still curious enough to want to continue. Powerful is a novella about a character we meet in the first book. If I’m honest, I actually like the novella just a bit more than the first novel. I am curious to see where the final two books go.

Taming 7 – Chloe Walsh
Unread

The Boys of Tommen is still a series I need to start. The sixth book in the series releases in May, so I really should get going. I’m still a bit intimidated by the books though, haha.

The Kiss Countdown – Etta Easton
Unread

I’m actually surprised I haven’t read The Kiss Countdown yet! Fake dating is my favorite trope and is something we get in this story. I want to say a sequel in this series released this year.

The Rebound – Catherine Walsh
Unread

Another book a friend and I bought to read together. It’s clear I haven’t been very good at buddy reads lately, haha.

Lore of the Wilds – Analeigh Sbrana
Read

I read an eARC of Lore of the Wilds, so I was happy when I saw this edition. Yes, this story had some flaws, but it was a fun read. I actually have an eARC of the sequel releasing soon. I’m excited to see where this story goes.

Funny Story – Emily Henry
Read

Funny Story is a book I read recently and I was mad at myself for not reading it right after I got my hands on a copy. This story had fake dating and these two characters were amazing! Emily Henry proved to me again why I love her books so much.

Darker by Four – June C.L. Tan
Unread

As I said in the bookhaul, Darker by Four is described as The Shadowhunter Chronicles meets the Chinese Underworld. This still sounds amazing to me. I really need to read more of my Fairyloot books, haha.

End Result:
Read: 11/24 – 45.8%
TBR: 13/24 – 54.2%

Isabelle

April last year was a good no-buy month for me, I only added one book to my Audible account by using a credit. It means this is a short post from me, but also that it didn’t really hurt my TBR haha.

Audible

Wildcard – Marie Lu
Read

I already owned a physical copy of Wildcard, I had to get the matching hardcover to my Warcross copy. While I didn’t expect to like these books, I did end up enjoying them. The elements I loved most in Warcross weren’t really present in Wildcard unfortunately, but it was a pretty decent sequel.

End Result:
Read: 1/1 – 100%
TBR: 0/1 – 0%

So that’s another looking back at our bookhaul post! Have you read any of these? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
