Review| Beautiful Ugly – Alice Feeney

The winter seems to be a great time to read thrillers (I can read them all year round though) and Beautiful Ugly caught my eye. Alice Feeney is an auto-buy author for me and I was so excited when I had the chance to read this one early. Today I want to tell you about this new release and what I thought.

A big thank you to Netgalley and Flatiron Books for providing me with an eARC/ALC to read and review. This doesn’t affect my opinion in any way.

The million-copy bestselling Queen of Twists Alice Feeney returns with a gripping and deliciously dark thriller about marriage. . .
. . . and revenge.

Author Grady Green is having the worst best day of his life.

Grady calls his wife to share some exciting news as she is driving home. He hears Abby slam on the brakes, get out of the car, then nothing. When he eventually finds her car by the cliff edge the headlights are on, the driver door is open, her phone is still there. . . but his wife has disappeared.

A year later, Grady is still overcome with grief and desperate to know what happened to Abby. He can’t sleep, and he can’t write, so he travels to a tiny Scottish island to try to get his life back on track. Then he sees the impossible — a woman who looks exactly like his missing wife.

Wives think their husbands will change but they don’t.
Husbands think their wives won’t change but they do.

Review
Alice Feeney has become a favorite thriller author of mine and Beautiful Ugly sounded right up my alley. I try and go into thrillers knowing as little as possible, because I feel like I enjoy them more that way. This story had me hooked from the first chapter and I couldn’t put it down. Our main character Grady’s wife goes missing and his seems to fall apart. He needs to write a new book to continue his career as an author, but just can’t seem to get any words down. That’s all I knew going into this, and that’s all you should know.

Once Grady goes to an island to see if he can get the words flowing, things get dark and mysterious. We meet some interesting characters and I even started wondering if my mind was playing tricks on me. There are some twists and events that keep you going. I’ll also say there’s no way I ever would’ve guessed how this book would end. It may not be completely realistic, but this is fiction right? It doesn’t always need to be!

The audiobook really added to my reading experience. The narrators really bring the characters to life and the little sound effects here and there just make it even more amazing. If you’re going to read this one, I highly recommend the audiobook of reading along with the audiobook. Alice Feeney definitely proved to me again why she’s one of my autobuy/read authors.

I know Beautiful Ugly seems to get some mixed reviews, but I loved this story. Have you read any good thrillers lately? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
