Review| Best Hex Ever – Nadia El-Fassi

Even though I’m in full Christmas mood, I couldn’t resist reading this cozy book. Best Hex Ever is the type of book that leaves you feeling like you’ve received a warm hug. Today it’s time for me to tell you about this book and what I thought.

A big thank you to Netgalley and Dell for providing me with an eARC to read and review. This affects my opinion in no way at all!

A kitchen witch with a penchant for baking and a (literally) cursed love life meets someone who’s worth breaking a hex for in this sweet and spicy debut romance.

As a skilled kitchen witch, Dina Whitlock knows her way around a pastry recipe. In fact, she runs her very own London café serving magic-infused pastries for her loyal customers. But only a select few friends know about her magical abilities or the hex that has plagued her love life. It’s hard to fall in love when your partner is guaranteed to have a string of bad luck the second they start to have feelings for you.

Scott Mason is back from traveling the world and is excited to begin his new job as a curator at the British Museum. After leaving London to heal from a brutal breakup two years ago, Scott only now realizes how much he missed out on. Now that his best friend’s wedding is right around the corner, Scott is determined to be the most amazing best man ever, but he doesn’t expect to be bewitched by the maid of honor, who also happens to be the owner of his new favorite café and, more surprisingly, a witch?!

After a weekend in the countryside full of peculiar hedge mazes, palm readings by candlelight, and a midnight Halloween ritual, there’s no denying the chemistry between them. But there’s just one problem: The hex still holds, and Dina knows that Scott is in danger. In the past, she’s always cut her losses, but this time is different. Scott could be the one. Will Dina be able to undo the hex, before it’s too late?

Review

Best Hex Ever was a witchy book that felt like a warm hug. It was cozy, funny, romantic, and heartwarming. There were a few moments that even had me close to tears. Best Hex Ever is an amazing debut novel and I’m already excited for Nadia’s next book. I even read Best Hex Ever in one sitting, so it’s safe to say I enjoyed this one.

Dina was such a fun character and if she was real, I would’ve loved to have been friends with her. I love that she had her own bakery and added spells to her pastries that affected her customers in a positive way. If only she didn’t have the hex that kept her from falling in love, because if someone develops feelings for her they start having lots of bad luck. Scott is a curator and has been traveling the world trying to get over a bad break up. There’s an instant connection between these two and while I’m normally not a fan of that, Nadia wrote this in such an amazing way. Yeah, feelings were there, but it didn’t feel over the top.

Their romance is mixed together with their best friend’s wedding. The side characters are amazing, and I loved all of the wedding activities. It was very clear these friends were very close and I love that element in romances. And even though I said there is a bit of instalove in Best Hex Ever, we still get a slow burn romance. Scott and Dina don’t act on their attraction for quite some time and the tension jumps off of the page. The hex is always in the back of her mind, but she still gives her feelings for Scott a chance. I really enjoyed how everything with the hex played out and it felt very fitting.

Best Hex Ever is a cozy, heartwarming, and romantic story and I definitely see myself picking this one up again the future. I can’t wait for Rosemary’s (one of Dina’s best friends) book releasing next year.

Best Hex Ever definitely left me wanting more and I can’t wait for this author’s next book, Love At First Fright. Have you read any witchy books recently? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
