We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is covers with [Item] on the cover and I decided to go with animals as I love animals and I thought is would be fun to see which books on my TBR have animals on them. I tried to stick to books on my physical TBR, so let’s take a look!
1. Ninth House – Leigh Bardugo
Snake
This book was one of the first that came to mind when I thought of this concept. Funnily enough, snakes are not the kind of animals I love haha. I’m actually pretty scared of snakes but I do think they look beautiful on covers.
2. The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon
Dragon
Does a dragon count as an animal? I figured it’s close enough so I included this one. How cool would it be if we had actual dragons? I really like reading about dragons and I should for sure pick this one up soonish.
3. The Merciful Crow – Margaret Owen
Birds
This was another one that came to mind, I knew I had a lot of books with birds on the cover. Which also interesting, as I don’t like birds either haha. They’re just unpredictable to me and always seem to fly close to your head.
4. The Storm Crow – Kalyn Josephson
Crows
More birds! I do think this is a really pretty cover, maybe that’s why I still own this one haha. Because I have to admit, I don’t see myself read this one anytime soon.
5. Beyond a Darkened Shore – Jessica Leake
Bird
And another one with a bird haha. I used this one for a try a chapter tag and I remember liking the first chapter quite a bit. My reader friends also really liked this book so I still plan on reading it at some point.
6. The Unexpected Everything – Morgan Matson
Dogs
Finally some animals I like haha. I have been planning on reading this one for the longest time now, I feel like it has been on so many TBR posts haha. This seems like summer (or maybe spring) read to me so it’s going to be at least a couple more months before I’d consider picking this one up.
7. Alice – Christina Henry
Rabbit
While I think rabbits are pretty cute, this is not a cute one at all. I do really want to read this book, it’s another one I used for a try a chapter tag and I remember being surprised by the first chapter and really liking it. It seems like a pretty good fall book so maybe I can squeeze it in sometime soon.
8. The Girl at Midnight – Melissa Grey
Swan
I said this had a swan on the cover but it looks like there is another animal on the left. It might be a dragon but I’m really not sure about it. I’ve heard pretty good things about this book and I like the cover so I hope to read it at some point.
9. The Lights of Prague – Nicole Jarvis
Birds
The last birds of this post haha. I really love this cover! And I love that this is set in Prague. I hope to finally read it soonish but I’m not sure when I will pick this up. Maybe I need to do another try a chapter tag, those always get me really excited about books.
10. Lore – Alexandra Bracken
Snakes
This one felt a bit like cheating but upon further investigation, those are for sure snakes on the cover so it absolutely counts haha. I want to read this one soon! Alexandra Bracken wrote a fantastic series and I have high hopes for this one.
This was a fun post to write! I expected to have more books with animals on the cover on my physical TBR but this was actually a bit challenging haha. Have you read any of these books? Which one should I read first? Let me know down below!
I really like the choice. The Unexpected Everything looks like a book that I’d enjoy.
I feel the same way about snakes, they frighten me yet on covers they look beautiful. I haven’t read any of these books yet, but I’ve always loved the cover for Priory of the Orange Tree 🙂

The storm Crow has a cool cover.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I’ve not been a huge fan of snakes my entire life. But after sitting with my daughter and watching YouTube videos about snakes, I’m slowly changing my feelings. Just don’t let her know! LOL!

I really liked Alice when I read it. Very dark retelling of Alice in Wonderland. I hope you have a great weekend.
