Review | The Blonde Identity – Ally Carter

I saw this title on Storytel and simply had to jump in right away. While I was browsing for a new audiobook I came across this one and recognised the author’s name. In the past I have read her Callagher Girls series and after glossing over the synopsis I decided to give the book a try. Today I want to share my thoughts with you all, so let’s jump in!

Review | The Blonde Identity – Ally Carter

The  New York Times bestselling YA author of the beloved Gallagher Girls series bursts onto the adult scene with a fast-paced, hilarious road trip rom-com about a woman with amnesia who discovers she’s the identical twin sister of a rogue spy… and must team up with a rugged, grumpy operative to stay alive.
It’s the middle of the night in the middle of Paris and a woman just woke up with no memory. She only knows three things for certain:
1. She has a splitting headache.2. The hottest guy she has (probably) ever seen is standing over her, telling her to run . And oh yeah…3. People keep trying to kill her.
She doesn’t know who. Or why. But when she sees footage of herself fighting off a dozen men there’s only one obviously . . . she’s a spy!
Except, according to Mr. Hot Guy, she’s not. She’s a spy’s identical twin sister.
Too bad the only person who knows she’s not the woman they’re looking for is this very grouchy, very sexy, very secret agent who (reluctantly) agrees to help her disappear. Which is easier said than done when a criminal organization wants you dead and every intelligence service in the world wants you caught.
Luckily, no one is looking for a pair of lovesick newlyweds on their honeymoon. And soon they’re lying their way across Europe—dodging bullets and faking kisses as they race to unravel a deadly conspiracy and clear her sister’s name.
But with every secret they uncover, the truth shifts, until she no longer knows who to the twin she can’t remember or the mysterious man she can’t let herself forget…

This one was so much fun! I personally really liked the Callagher Girls series when I was younger, yes it was ridiculous but it was also a lot of fun. And I would say this book is like Callagher Girls but for adults. The premise of the book is based on The Bourne Identity, a movie I really like.

I didn’t really read the synopsis before starting the book, I only glanced over it and somehow missed a key element of it. But that did make it a lot of fun! We meet our main character after she wakes up on the streets of Paris with amnesia. And there are people with guns after her. There is a guy offering her help and when we get to his POV we realise he might also be after her?

So that’s how she found herself straddling a stranger on top of a floating terrarium while two dozen tourists took photos from below.

Turns out there is a case of mistaken identity going on and our MC is not a spy. She is now however on the run from both a crime syndicate and the CIA. And our male MC is helping her.

I enjoyed this book so much. It was laugh out loud funny to me and the romance was really cute. I liked the characters and just had some simple fun for a couple of hours. No need to think too hard, simply enjoy the story for what is was. And I have to say, I would love to read more books like this! I almost want to dive back into the Callagher Girls series, just for the fun of it!

Like I said, I had a great time reading this one. I would for sure recommend it, but be sure you know what to expect before going in. This isn’t the best written book ever and the romance is more vibes than really well developed love. But if you liked the Callagher Girls series, I think you will enjoy this one too!
