It’s the beginning of the month and that means it’s time for us to see if we’re reading what we add to our shelves. This can be a scary post depending on the month and this month’s looking back at our bookhauls is all about our July 2023 bookhaul. Keep on reading to see how we did!
Candyce
In July 2023, I ended up adding 16 new books to my shelves. When our bookhaul was posted, I had already read 2 of these books. Let’s see how I’ve done since then, because I believe I actually did pretty well this month.
Business or Pleasure – Rachel Lynn Solomon
Read
Business or Pleasure was one of the two books I had already read before this bookhaul came online. Rachel Lynn Solomon writes romances that I enjoy and this one wasn’t any different. This was a quick and fun read!
A Dowry of Blood – S.T. Gibson
Read
A Dowry of Blood is a book that is pretty hyped and a lot of people seem to love. The writing is beautiful and the story was okay, but it didn’t really blow me away like it has many readers. I will read more by this author though.
So Happy for You – Celia Laskey
Read
For me So Happy for You was a disappointment. The synopsis had me believing it would be an intriguing book about a woman trying to figure out why the wedding party is out to get her. This is a short book and so much of it had nothing to do with this plot point. I wasn’t a fan.
You, with a View – Jessica Joyce
Read
You, with a View is one of my favorite reads of 2023. This book is so much more than just a road trip with a high school enemy. It’s about grief, misunderstandings, new beginnings, and so much more. While reading I was laughing and crying. I definitely see myself rereading You, with a View in the future.
A Thousand Miles – Bridget Morrissey
Read
In the bookhaul I said I hoped to love this one as much as That Summer Feeling. A Thousand Miles was also a five star read for me, but I still think I loved That Summer Feeling just a little bit more. I do think this is the perfect summer romance and it’s one you just can’t put down.
Immortal Longings – Chloe Gong
Unread
Immortal Longings is one I haven’t read yet, but I really still want to. There are quite a few mixed reviews, but I have a feeling I will enjoy this. The sequel to this one releases in the next couple of months, so I should get started soon.
Beartown – Fredrik Backman
Read
After reading Beartown, I completely get why this book has so much hype. It did take me a minute to really be pulled into this story. That’s mostly because we get quite a few POVs (sometimes multiple POVs in one chapter), but when it all comes together it’s amazing. This is just a small town, but so much happens and certain events lead to others and this author wrote this in such an interesting way. I need to read the other two books in this trilogy.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevin
Unread
Out of all of the books in this haul, I think I’m most surprised I haven’t read this one yet. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a book that’s received a lot of hype and one I’m still really curious about.
The Gilded Wolves & The Silvered Serpents – Roshani Chokshi
Read
This trilogy was actually a really pleasant surprise and I’m so glad I picked it up. Even if I did unhaul my first copy of The Gilded Wolves at the beginning of 2023, haha. The characters are amazing, the world is interesting, and it really had me at the edge of my seat.
Dear Grumpy Boss – Julia Wolf
Read
I read this at the beginning of August last year and did enjoy the beginning of this book. If I’m honest, I don’t really remember much about it thought. The book just didn’t really stick. I do know that I didn’t enjoy Dear Grumpy Boss as much as I thought I would.
Hooked – Emily McIntire
Unread
Hooked is another book that I really need to sit down and read. I believe the sixth book in the series is releasing this year, so I should really make progress before its release.
Pretend You’re Mine – Lucy Score
Read
I’ve come to find that Lucy Score writes amazing small town romances. Even though this book is 500+ pages, it didn’t feel like that at all and I flew through Pretend You’re Mine. I have the sequel that I still need to read.
Way of Argosi – Sebastien de Castell
Read
Way of Argosi was a pleasant surprise. I loved the characters, world, and the lessons the author weaved into this story. I still need to get the sequel.
This Winter & Nick and Charlie – Alice Oseman
Read
Both of these novellas give us little glimpses into the Heartstopper world and I enjoyed them both. Novellas can be hit or miss for me, but these were good. I really need to get Heartstopper Vol. 5. I’m actually surprised I haven’t yet.

I only added 4 new books last year in July, the last year or so I have been doing pretty well with not buying a lot of books and then not reading them I would say. So let’s see if I read these ones.
Haikyu! 13 – 16 – Haruichi Furudate
Read
I adore this manga and if you’ve read our wrap-up last week, you know I recently finished the whole series so yes I have read these volumes. While I don’t necessarily remember what these ones were about specifically, I do know I loved them and they were great haha. I will for sure reread them at some point.
End Result
Read: 4/4 – 100%
TBR: 0/4 – 0%
So that’s another looking back at our bookhauls! Have you read any of these books? Or do you keep track of if you’ve read what you bought? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.
