A book tag that a lot of bloggers tend to do about halfway through the year is the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag. It’s that time of year again and I decided to give this tag another go. Let’s talk about my 2024 reading year so far and start this tag.
Best Book You’ve Read So Far
I’m actually typing this one about a month in advance, so I may just read a better book than I talk about now, but so be it. As always I can never choose just one. A few of my favorites have been The Poppy War, Fragile Sanctuary, and Ready or Not.
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far
Today Tonight Tomorrow was a favorite book of mine and I was so excited when the author announced we were getting more Rowan and Neil. Past Present Future was everything I wanted and more! It was great being with these characters and I loved that the author was realistic that not everything is perfect when life changes.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To
I tend to have a problem with my most anticipated releases. I get really excited about them, but when I finally have the book I just don’t read it. That’s also the case with House of Flame and Shadow. I did start reading this and got about 50 pages in. I think part of me was just also waiting for the hype to die down a bit.
Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year
The Scarlet Alchemist was a book I loved this year and I’m anxiously awaiting the sequel. That ending had me wanting more and thankfully there are only a few months to go before I get my hands on this sequel.
Biggest Disappointment
I was so excited when my book club voted for The Sword of the Kaigen, because it was a book I saw everywhere and it got amazing reviews. After reading it, I was so disappointed. When I read the reviews I really wonder if I read a different book than others did.
Biggest Surprise
After not liking Priest at all, I was scared about starting Salt Kiss. I’m so glad I gave it a chance though, because wow! I didn’t even know I needed this book, but I couldn’t put it down. Honey Cut, the sequel, just released and I’ll definitely be reading that soon.
Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)
As you read earlier in this tag, Fragile Sanctuary is one of my favorite reads of 2024. Catherine Cowles is an author I’ve been wanting to read something by for quite some time now and I’m glad I finally did. Since then I’ve also read Tattered Stars and know she’s easily going to become one of my favorite new authors. I’m thankful she has a backlist I get to read.
Newest Fictional Crush
Next to You is another favorite of 2024 and Matt is a new fictional crush. He was so sweet and definitely book boyfriend material.
Newest Favorite Character
I’ve been sitting here for awhile and for some reason no characters are coming to mind. I know I’ve loved a lot of new fictional characters this year.
Book That Made You Cry
I knew going into Five Feet Apart that it wasn’t going to be a happy story, but it definitely hit me in all the feels. I had to wipe away tears a few times while reading about Stella and Will.
Favorite Book to Film Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year
There are a lot of film adaptations, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen any this year. I do want to watch One True Loves soon and The Idea of You.
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought or Received This Year
Publishers are definitely stepping it up and giving us stunning editions of books. It amazes me what they can do with books. Even more so since I started my Fairyloot subscription. One of the editions I love is the Fairyloot edition of A Fragile Enchantment.
What Book(s) Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?
My TBR is endless, so there are so many books I could put here. Three I’m hoping to read before the end of the year are Binding 13, Mile High, and The Book of Doors.
So that’s the mid year book freakout tag for me this year! What have been some of your favorites this year? Or did you find any amazing new authors? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
I love this tag! I’ve had such a weird reading year this year but I’m hoping to get back on track in this half.
