I have read every book in the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire and was always looking forward to the next instalment. But at some point I was getting less and less interested, as they weren’t as exciting to me anymore. I was still reading them but not right away and I wasn’t enjoying them as much. That’s why it took me so long to get to this one. But now I have read it, and I do want to share my thoughts with you all! So let’s jump in.

Dinosaurs and portals, and a girl who can find both in the latest book in the Hugo and Nebula Award-Winning series.
Antsy is the latest student to pass through the doors at Eleanor West's School for Wayward Children.
When her fellow students realize that Antsy's talent for finding absolutely anything may extend to doors, she's forced to flee in the company of a small group of friends, looking for a way back to the Shop Where the Lost Things Go to be sure that Vineta and Hudson are keeping their promise.
Along the way, temptations are dangled, decisions are reinforced, and a departure to a world populated by dinosaurs brings untold dangers and one or two other surprises!
A story that reminds us that finding what you want doesn't always mean finding what you need.

This instalment is one where we follow a whole group at the school. But our main character is Antsy, who we met in the previous book. I really like Antsy as a character and her struggle with the way she appears and her actual age was so interesting to read about.
Of course I loved seeing some of the characters we already know and love. There were some other characters we kind of know, but I wasn’t really attached to most of them to be honest. I guess at some point there are just too many characters and I just can’t care about all of them. That might be one of the reason I started enjoying the books less and less. Jack was my absolute favorite character and I know it wouldn’t make sense to still have her in the books but the newer characters just don’t live up to her for me personally.
The story was actually pretty interesting, although it was a bit of a continuation of the previous book. I’ve read this one a couple of weeks ago and I had to think long and hard about all that happened to be able to write this review. And I think that says a lot about how I feel about this book. There are only 160 pages and while the author manages to write about multiple interesting worlds in that time, I guess nothing really grabbed me like before.
This review starts to sound really negative but that wasn’t my intention at all. I actually rated the book 4 stars haha. But I think this is my view of the later books in the series overall compared to the first couple of books. However, I think this was my favorite out of the last 4 books. And before this one I was debating not picking these up anymore but this one convinced me to give the series another go. So I guess I will read at least one more haha. Are you still reading this series? What did you think of this one? Let me know down below!
