Bookhaul | May 2024

It’s the first of June, which means it’s time to take a look back the books we got in May! Were we good? Or did we splurge a little bit? Keep on reading our May bookhaul to find out.

Candyce

In May I got my Kobo Libra Color and with that I really want to cut back on buying new physical books. Newer releases I don’t have as an eARC or will be a book club book, I want to read digitally on my Kobo and focus on my backlist. I’ve been doing good, but I can do a lot better, haha. I ended up adding 10 books to my shelves this month and I’ve already read 4 of them, so I’m off to a good start!

The Book Eaters – Sunyi Dean

People who eat books instead of food? That’s something that definitely caught my attention. I’ve been wanting to read this since it releases in 2022, but I’m just now getting to it. This is going to be a buddy read and I’m excited about it.

Truly, Madly, Deeply – Alexandria Bellefleur

The Fiancee Farce was one of my favorites in 2023, so of course I had to get this author’s latest release! Truly, Madly, Deeply is one one my anticipated releases and the fact that one of the main characters is a romance novelist has my expectations high.

A Sign of Affection Vol. 9 – Suu Morishita

A Sign of Affection has become one of my favorite manga series so far and I was so excited to finally get volume 9. The only negative thing about manga is that I read it so quickly. I’m already anxiously awaiting the release of volume 10.

Five Broken Blades – Mai Corland

I love that lately fantasy books have been getting such pretty editions. A lot of the time it’s only the first print, so I had to pre-order Five Broken Blades. The sprayed edges and cover are stunning and the story sounds right up my alley. I love that the main characters are the five most dangerous liars. Who are we going to be able to trust?

Sweet Nightmare – Tracy Wolff

I have two books in the Crave series left to read by this author, but I ended up enjoying them a lot more than expected. I love that Sweet Nightmare is set in the same world as this series. The cover is stunning and I’m hoping to love it just as much.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 Vol. 1 – Mashiro

The first volume of this manga is finally translated to English and came in the mail this month. Of course I had to read it right away and I’m glad I ordered it. I’m not a gamer, but I still love books with characters that love gaming.

The Dixon Rule – Elle Kennedy

I’m a big fan of Elle Kennedy and she was the author that got me hooked on sports romances. Off Campus is still one of my favorite series. Last year I loved The Graham Effect and I’m so excited to finally have the sequel to that in my hands.

A Curse of Blood and Wolves – Melissa McTernan

A Curse of Blood and Wolves is Fairyloot’s May romantasy book. I’m not familiar with this one, but I have to say I was sold when I saw this is a Little Red Riding Hood reimagining. I’ve never read one, so I’m very intrigued.

Heavenbreaker – Sara Wolf

Red Tower books got me again with another stunning edition. The first print of Heavenbreaker is gorgeous and the story sounds right up my alley. I have a feeling we’re getting another powerful female main character and a story that will keep us hooked from the start.

The Temptation of Magic – Megan Scott

The Temptation of Magic isn’t a book that was on my radar, but now that Fairyloot had this as their YA book for May I’m curious. This book has a complete new design and as a forbidden romance it sounds amazing. I’m glad that Fairyloot brought this one to my attention.

Isabelle

I actually got a lot of new books this month, 23! Although most of those are manga haha. I got some extra money this month and I just couldn’t resist getting more books haha. So far I’ve already read 12 so I’m off to a good start.

Haikyu 26-45 – Haruichi Furudate

I forgot to photograph some of the volumes but here are 11 out of the 20 (!) I got this month. This manga series has quickly become my favorite and I enjoy it immensely. I only have 8 more volumes to read and I’m figuring out how to make it last a little longer.

The Promised Neverland 8 – Kaiu Shirai

Before Haikyu The Promised Neverland was one of my favorite manga series, and I still very much would love to continue reading the series. So when I came across the next volume I needed in a bookstore I was visiting I couldn’t resist. I can’t wait to dive back into this world.

Dune & Dune Messiah – Frank Hebert

I adored the Dune movies so much! Years ago I read Dune but I didn’t own a copy, and knowing there will be a Dune part 3 based on Dune Messiah I decided I needed to get the first 2 books of the series on my shelves. I hope to reread Dune soon and jump into Dune Messiah right after.

So that’s our May bookhaul! Have you read any of these? Or what books did you add to your shelves in May? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.
