Like we said yesterday, another month flew by! February is a bit shorter of course, but it still felt even faster than normal. Yesterday we talked about the new books we added to our shelves, and today we’re going to talk about what we read. So keep on reading for our February wrap up!
Candyce
February was a really good reading month for me! I ended up reading 25 books (11 paperbacks, 5 audiobooks, 4 hardcovers, 2 ARCs, 2 ebooks, and 1 manga). Out of these 25 books, 10 of them were backlist books. I’m really proud of myself this month. Let’s see what I read!
The Hurricane Wars – Thea Guanzon
I remember seeing this book everywhere once ARCs started going out. A new romantasy is something I’m always looking forward to. The Huricane Wars has some mixed reviews, but I really enjoyed this one. Talasyn and Alaric pulled me into their story and I can’t wait for the next book!
The Woman in the Library – Sulari Gentill
I saw The Woman in the Library while watching a Booksandlala video on YouTube. I was very intrigued so I ordered it. I’m so grateful that I did! This thriller ended up being more than just that and did something I never expected. I will definitely be reading the next book by Sulari Gentill.
Ruthless Vows – Rebecca Ross
Divine Rivals was a book that surprised me in a great way. I was afraid after all the hype it was getting, but it deserved it and then some. Ruthless Vows was an emotional rollercoaster, but so worth it. I’m actually sad this is only a duology.
Only If You’re Lucky – Stacy Willingham
Stacy Willingham has written two of my favorite thrillers, so I was so excited for Only If You’re Lucky. It was a good book, but not as great as the first two. I did listen to tbe audiobook, so it may just be me that I enjoyed this one a little less. I do still get distracted at times while listening. I’ll probably read this one again physically.
Main Character Energy – Jamie Varon
The synopsis of this book caught my eye, because our main character is an author, but just can’t seem to get a book published. Her life is turned upside down when she inherits a house from her aunt. Poppy goes through a lot as she takes everything in and realizes what her aunt wants from her. I was loving this one for quite some time, but the main character really annoyed me at time and I just really needed the characters to communicate.
The Love Wager – Lynn Painter
Lynn Painter is another autobuy author for me and The Love Wager was the only book by her that I hadn’t read yet. I’m so glad I finally picked it up. These charcaters are both looking for love and want to help each other and so clearly fall in love. I had a smile on my face whole reading it.
Do Your Worst – Rosie Danan
I’m not a reader of reviews, but I did notice that this one had some mixed reviews. I ended up really enjoying this one. Do Your Worst has a curse breaker and archeologist working together and it’s going as good as expected. Especially seeing how these two slept together before knowing they’d be working together. The curse, our main characters, and their romance made this a very enjoyable read for me.
Homerun Proposal – Maren Moore
As a big lover of sports romances, I had to read Homerun Proposal. Lane is one to add to the book boyfriend list. Also, I appreciated that this brother’s best friend romance wasn’t that dramatic as they normally can get when the brother finds out.
A Fragile Enchantment – Allison Swift
I loved the idea of sewing emotions into clothing and that had me wanting to read A Fragile Enchantment. I’m so glad I did. There was romance, politics, and a bit of betrayal. I was sad that this is a standalone.
The Cheat Sheet – Sarah Adams
A best friends to lovers sports romance was what I was in the mood for and The Cheat Sheet delivered. Add some fake dating along the way and this reader was very happy.
Caught Stealing – C.E. Ricci
I should’ve known this book wouldn’t be for me when even the author has in an author note this book won’t be for everyone. I couldn’t stand our main character Phoenix and the romance just didn’t appeal to me. How can I hope a character gets a happily ever after when he treats his best friend like that?
A Sign of Affection Vol. 2 – Suu Morishita
Part of me wants to binge this manga series, but I also want to savor it at the same time. This is such a heartwarming story that has me smiling the whole time I’m reading.
Salt Kiss – Sierra Simone
After not enjoying Priest, I was afraid to start this book. I’m glad I did though, because Salt Kiss was one wild ride and I just couldn’t put it down. It’s steamy, romantic, tragic, and suspenseful. All I know is that I need the next book in this series.
Cleat Cute – Meryl Wilsner
After loving Mistakes Were Made I was excited about reading Cleat Cute. This sapphic sports romance was a lot of fun and I liked seeing it touching different subjects (like expectations of what people can do financially, athletes being questioned about their personal lives, who are you as a person if you’re not playing anymore?). While I didn’t love this as much as Mistakes Were Made, Cleat Cute was an enjoyable read.
Hate & Liar – Tate James
A friend and I decided to reread the Madison Kate series and we read the first two books (and we’re currently working on book three). I’m so glad I’m reading this all over again. It’s still good, if not better than the first time around. The guys are great, Madison is sassy, and a lot of wild things happen.
Spells for Forgetting – Adrienne Young
Spells for Forgetting is a mystery with some magical realism. I enjoyed how the author made this such an atmospheric read that kept me guessing until the end. The switch between past and present, as well as multiple POVs really worked for this story.
Tress of the Emerald Sea – Brandon Sanderson
Tress of the Emerald Sea was my in person book club read for February and I loved it. This adventure is told in such a whimsical way and the little details made it even better. Tress was such a fun character and she goes through a lot.
A Dowry of Blood – S.T. Gibson
This is a book that’s talked about a lot and everyone seems to love it. A Dowry of Blood has beautiful writing and it was intriguing, but I’m not really sure what I read. Maybe all of the hype left me a bit underwhelmed (I still gave this 4 stars), but I felt like the story missed a few things.
The Murder After the Night Before – Katy Brent
I can’t even imagine how horrific it is to wake up one morning and have a video of yourself going viral, but also finding your best friend dead in her bathtub. That’s how this one starts off. The Murder After the Night Before started off really strong and had me hooked. After awhile things because a bit too convenient and I still don’t quite understand the ending.
Love Redesigned – Lauren Asher
Love Redesigned is a 500+ page romance that I binged in one evening while listening to the audiobook and reading it physically. Dahlia and Julian needed in each other in different ways, but it was great seeing them fall for each other and start seeing how amazing they were. Add in meddling families and it was just a great ride.
The Foxglove King – Hannah Whitten
I really enjoyed The Foxglove King. While I would’ve loved just a bit more world building and some more information about the magic, this one kept me hooked from the beginning to the end. I’m looking forward to the sequel.
A Court of Frost and Starlight – Sarah J. Maas
I don’t know what’s going on, but I reread three books this month! I’m aiming to finally reread A Court of Silver Flames and wanted to read this novella again beforehand.
The Scarlet Alchemist – Kylie Lee Baker
I loved this book so much!! It was such a wild read and so many things happened I didn’t see coming at all!! I only finished this book right before the 1st and I’m still trying to put my feelings into words. I highly recommend reading this one.
Ricochet – Krista & Becca Ritchie
I’m really understanding the love for this series. While I still wish we got Loren’s POV, I’m hooked. I’ll be ordering the next book soon.
Isabelle
While I have had a week off of work, I still didn’t manage to read that much. I’ve been super tired and couldn’t even concentrate on audiobooks, so I’ve only read 4 books this month. However, I am really happy with the ones I did read! So let’s take a look.
Diary of a Romantica vol. 1: Lovers Forgotten – Celia Martinez
I already reviewed this poetry collection and have been talking about it quite a lot recently haha. Celia is a genius with words and I really relate with what she says. I love watching her on TikTok and Instagram and can’t wait to get more of her books.
Fence vol. 6: Redemption – C.S. Pacat & Johanna the Mad
One of my most anticipated releases of the year! And luckily I loved it. This is such a wonderful graphic novel series. I love the art, I love the characters, I love the details. The one thing I hate is how long I have to wait until we get the next one haha.
Saga vol. 11 – Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples
Another graphic novel series I love! And one that has the next release later this year haha. I really enjoy this science fiction story with so many different characters. This one feels like it is setting up for a big move in the plot, so I can’t wait for the next volume.
House of Flame and Shadow – Sarah J. Maas
Talking about anticipated releases… This has to be my number one anticipated release of the year. After that cliffhanger in House of Breath and Sky I had to have this one. I loved this finale to the series, it wasn’t as shocking as some theories online had us thinking but I liked the directions it went in.
So this is our February wrap up! Have you read any of these books? Or did you discover any 11new favorites last month? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.
