As I’ve mentioned before, one of my important reading goals of 2023 is shrinking my physical TBR. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books I still have or subjects I want to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.
This week’s topic is Fairy Tale. I have to say that I’m not completely feeling this one and I’m assuming it refers to retellings. We have done one of those in the past I think so I’m going to see if I have some tales about fairies instead. Let’s take a look!
1. Lud-In-The-Mist – Hope Mirrlees
I had to include this one! This edition has a gorgeous cover and I’m super curious. The book is a bit older and I believe some people see it as a classic. It is a true fairy tale because it’s about fairies the way we’ve always heard about them. I can’t wait to read this one!
2. Judged – Liz de Jager
This is book 3 in the Blackheart Legacy series. I really enjoyed the first two books and it would be great if I could finish the series soon with this one. To be honest, I have forgotten a lot of details, but I do remember enjoying it! It had a classic take on fairies but still managed to be original.
3. Spinning Silver – Naomi Novik
I adore Naomi Novik and Uprooted is one of my favorite books. Spinning Silver comes up in a lot of fairy tale lists. I honestly can’t believe I still haven’t read this one yet. Maybe because I’m scared I won’t love it as much as I did Uprooted…..
4. Cruel Beauty – Rosamund Hodge
I was super excited about this one, but I have to say that excitement is pretty much gone now. This is a beauty and the beast retelling and while that is still my favorite Disney movie, I’m a bit over all the beauty and the beast retellings. The reviews for this one were super positive so I will give it a try at some point.
5. Hunted – Meagan Spooner
And another beauty and the beast retelling haha. I used to try and get all of the BatB retellings I could get my hands on…. But now I’m left with more of them then I’m interested in haha. I just own a lot of books I’m much more excited about. This one does have good reviews but they’re also about 5 years old.
And those were 5 fairy tales on my TBR! Have you read any of them? Which one should I pick up right away? Are there ones I should just unhaul? Let me know in the comments!
This is a great list!
