Looking Back At Our Bookhauls | December 2019

Today we are looking back at our 2019 December bookhaul. December is usually a month we get a ton of new books! But do we end up reading those books? This is the post were we are looking back at our previous bookhaul to see if we did. So let’s dive in!

I’ve been thinking about this one the past few months, because I knew it was a big one and I’m actually really scared to see how many books in this haul I actually read. I added 27 books to my shelves in December 2019. This is going to be interesting…

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill – Abbi Waxman

I think I’m going to say this a lot in this post, but I’m really surprised I haven’t read this one. The title and synopsis is filled with everything I love! This will definitely have to become a priority in 2021!

The Paper Hearts Society – Lucy Powrie

If I’m honest, I forgot about this one. I recently saw it when grabbing a different book I was planning on reading. Again, this sounds like such a cute contemporary that I’m going to love. A few friends of mine read it and are big fans.

The Darkest Star – Jennifer L. Armentrout

Yay! I can finally say I read one of my books. And in this case, I’ve read it twice. When I got it last December it was one I had already read, because I had an ARC. I recently did a re-read of it so I could continue with the sequel. I loved this book.

Serpent & Dove – Shelby Mahurin
Currently Reading

I’ve heard so many amazing things about Serpent & Dove and I am reading this one. At the moment I’m almost halfway through. It’s been a little while since I was actively reading it, but I will finish it soon. If I don’t I’ll have to start over again, haha.

The Gilded Wolves – Roshani Chokshi

The Gilded Wolves is still unread and I even have an e-arc of the sequel (oops…). A friend and I were going to buddyread this one, but like a never ending story, we got distracted by other books. I do still really want to read this one though.

Tunnel of Bones – Victoria Schwab

Tunnel of Bones was a book I was going to save for Halloween last year, but ended up reading it a little earlier than that. Once again, I loved this adventure and I can’t wait for the third book in this series. It’s the perfect combination of spooky and interesting and the covers are stunning!

Serious Moonlight – Jenn Bennett

I actually put this one on my December TBR, but in the end December was a weird reading month for me and didn’t got completely as planned. I am determined to read Serious Moonlight though, because my contemporary loving heart knows it’s going to be good.

Contagion – Erin Bowman

Another book I had in my hands a few times this year, but ended up picking something else. Again, I read a few horror this year and they were pretty good. I know quite a few readers who really enjoyed this one, so I’m definitely hoping I enjoy it just as much.

Heart of Iron – Ashley Poston

I now own three unread books written by this author, haha. Once again, I know I own this one, but just really need to make the time for it. The cover is stunning and the synopsis sounds amazing.

The Burning Shadow – Jennifer L. Armentrout

I actually just finished reading this one yesterday, haha. The Burning Shadow was such an intense book and I was doing a buddyread for this one. Except the storyline got so intense we couldn’t deal with three chapters a day. So I read the last 17 chapters in one go, haha. I’m so glad I received the third book for Christmas.

Sweet Black Waves – Kristina Perez

I’m becoming a broken record it feels like. Yet again, another book I’m really interested in, but just haven’t gotten around to. The whole trilogy is out now, so I could binge this one if I want to!

A Question of Holmes – Brittany Cavallaro

This is a series I’m determined to finish in 2021! It’s been so long since I read the first book, so that will be a re-read, so I can read the other three back to back. They’re not that big, so it shouldn’t take me long.

Now Entering Addamsville – Francesca Zappia

Another book I actually just recently finished, but one I enjoyed. I’m not sure it’s exactly what I expected, but I couldn’t put it down. Francesca Zappia has a way with words and I’ll definitely keep an eye on future books by this author.

Wizards of Once – Cressida Cowell

In 2020 I read a lot of amazing middle grade books and want to make it a point to read more this year. One of them being Wizards of Once. I own the first two books and they’re stunning. Time to give them a go.

Supernova – Marissa Meyer

Renegades is another trilogy I want to start and finish this year. I know Isabelle loved the first book and it sounds like something I will as well. It’s nice when I know if I start this trilogy it will be complete and I don’t have to wait for more books.

Honor Among Thieves – Rachel Caine & Ann Aguirre

This past year I read more science fiction and have learned it’s a genre I like more than I realized as well. So I’m glad I have more in my TBR to tackle this year including Honor Among Thieves. I love this cover and the story sound intriguing.

We Set the Dark on Fire – Tehlor Kay Mejia

I still love this colorful and stunning cover and can’t wait to read it. I’ve honestly heard so many amazing things about this story. Recently someone on Instagram said it’s an interesting ride, so I have a feeling I’m going to want the sequel after finishing this one, haha.

Loki: Where the Mischief Lies – Mackenzi Lee

Marvel is something that’s talked about a lot in my house, haha. My boyfriend is a big fan of some of the comics and I’ve enjoyed most of the movies. Loki is an interesting character and I love that Loki is a main character. This one is on my Backlist Bingo for this year.

Starsight – Brandon Sanderson

Skyward is the first book in this series and I need to read that one still. I’ve read a few of Sanderson’s books last year and really love his writing. So it’s time to start this scifi series. These books are pretty long, but I have a feeling that’s going to be a good thing for this story.

Little Moments of Love – Catana Chetwynd

I read this Christmas morning right after unwrapping it, haha. These comics are so much fun and so relatable. I’m so excited about the third book releasing next month and the daily calendar I got from my boyfriend for 2021.

The Kingdom – Jess Rothenburg

The Kingdom was definitely a cover buy for me, but the story does sound really interesting. It’s a tiny book, so I should be able to get through it quickly.

Queenslayer – Sebastien de Castell

This is a series of six books that I all own and need to read. I’ve heard some really amazing things about it even though it doesn’t seem to get a lot of hype. For some reason I don’t have a picture of this one.

Thunderhead & The Toll – Neal Shusterman

Scythe is an amazing book and I really need to do a re-read before continuing with these two. I kept hearing that I’d want the third book after reading the sequel, but I can read them back to back now. They’re bigger books, but I plan on enjoying every moinute.

Blood Heir – Amelie Wen Zhao

I have to say that I really enjoyed this story. It took me a little bit to really get sucked into this story, but once it did I couldn’t put it down. I’m looking for the sequel releasing soon.

The Beautiful – Renee Ahdieh

I should be ashamed that I still haven’t finished this. I started it quite awhile ago and read over 20%. I even have the sequel. This really needs to be a priority this year, haha.

The Deathless Girls  – Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Another book I had on my December TBR, but again the month didn’t go as planned, so I didn’t get to this one. I still think this cover is stunning and hope I love the story as well.

Read: 6/27 – 22.2%
Unread: 21/27 – 77.8%

My bookhaul for December 2019 wasn’t as crazy as I was expecting it to be. It looks like I was trying to slow down my book buying already haha. I got 9 new books, but did I read all of them? Let’s take a look.

Saga vol. 5&6 – Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples

These were the last volumes I needed to be able to read all the released volumes. I love Saga and I’m very excited for the next part of the series. The authors are on a hiatus but I hope they will be back soon haha.

Fence vol. 3 – C.S. Pacat

Can you believe I only gotten vol 3 only a year ago? I love this series with all my heart and I’m so glad I read it. This series, for me, has the perfect amount of talking and playing sports. I can’t wait for the next volume even though it’s hard to find information about when that will be!

Witch Hat Atelier 1 – Kamome Shirahama

I can’t believe I only got the first Witch Hat Atelier book last year! At this point I’ve read 4 volumes and I can’t wait to read more. When I ordered these, they were the only ones available but by now there are a couple of more books I out I think. I will keep an eye out for as long as it’s necessary!

The Promised Neverland 5 – Kaiu Shirai

This past month I actually read book 6&7! I love this series so so much and I plan on getting more volumes really soon. These books are amazing, the story is pretty scary while the characters are amazing! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Scythe – Neal Shusterman

I have been wanting to read this book and the trilogy for years now haha. And for another year I have owned this book without actually reading it. I’m loving sci-fi more and more lately so I hope to love this book as well!

Skyward – Brandon Sanderson

I read a couple of Brandon Sanderson book this past year and I really enjoyed them. This was definitely on my TBR for the year but unfortunately it didn’t happen. I hope to pick up a couple of more Brandon Sanderson books in 2021 though.

The Dark Vault – V.E. Schwab

I haven’t read this one unfortunately. Not too long ago I had read almost of the V.E. Schwab books I owned. At this point I’ve got 2 bind-ups and 1 eARC I still need to (finish) read. I know I will love this and I hope to read it soon!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling – Illustrated Edition

I’m counting this as read since I have read HP and the Goblet of Fire and I don’t plan on rereading the books with these illustrated editions any time soon. These editions are gorgeous and I wanted to have them so bad. But they aren’t my preferred manner of consuming this story again.

End Result
Read: 6/9 – 66.6%
Unread: 3/9 – 33.3%

It’s always interesting to see what we’ve read and what we haven’t! If you’ve read any of the books in this post we’d love to know what you thought of them. Let us know in the comments!
