Bookish Item| Trope-ical Readathon TBR

I love participating in readathons, but I don’t always finish them, haha. I’ve been looking for one to participate in this summer and that’s when I stumbled upon the Trope-ical Readathon on Jenny’s blog Jen Jen Reviews. All of the information can be found there and takes place during August. You can still register until August 8th, so I definitely suggest taking a look! Today I’m going to talk about my TBR!

The Trope-ical Readathon has common challenges and you can also join a team. I had to join Team Romance of course, that also adds a team book and two more challenges to the list! Let’s start off with the Common Challenges! If you can’t think of a book to read with a certain trope, you’re allowed to choose the alternate prompt.

Absent/Dead Parent(s): I Am Here Now takes place in the 1960’s and sounds really interesting. The main character’s mother is abusive and the father is rarely around, so I’m counting this one towards this prompt. The book is told in verse. I haven’t read many books told this way, so I’m excited about I Am Here Now!

Strange Names: I’ve been thinking about this prompt for awhile, but nothing really popped out to me. So I decided to do the alternative prompt. Read a book that starts with the first letter of your name. Crave is the book I put on my TBR. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews and a friend wanted someone to read it that similar tastes.

Outbreak/Pandemic: Contagion has been on my shelf since Christmas, so this would be the perfect time to finally read it. There is some type of outbreak after the crew is called out for a rescue mission after receiving an urgent SOS!

Forbidden Romance: A witch and witch hunter romance doesn’t exactly sound like a romance many people will support. Serpent & Dove is a book I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about! The sequel will be releasing soon, so this is perfect timing!

Dystopia: The Kingdom is a dystopian book that has gotten some mixed reviews, but that has definitely caught my attention. Especially this line from the synopsis: “Welcome to the Kingdom… where ‘Happily Ever After’ isn’t just a promise, but a rule.

Blast from the Past: Taylor Danae Colbert is one of my favorite authors and she’s publishing a new book in August: Back to Shore. Our main character end up running into someone she was in love with at 16. There’s definitely more to this story and I can’t wait to read this one!

Mixed Media: Emergency Contact is also told through text messages. I love when books have messages and e-mails throughout the story. A few readers I know loved this book and I’m excited to finally give it a try!

Artificial Intelligence: The Murderbot Diaries is a series I’ve heard a lot about! All Systems Red is the first book in the series. It’s not that long too, so perfect to add to a readathon with a lot of prompts, haha.

Amnesia: The One Memory of Flora Banks has been on my shelf for way too long and it’s time to sit down and read it. I can’t imagine having amnesia. That has to be so frustrating when everyone around you has memories you don’t have!

Enemies to Lovers/Friends: A Song of Wraiths and Ruin has been on my TBR since I heard about it. A few people I know have read this one and really enjoyed it. Again, the perfect time to give a book like this a go.

Chosen One: The Lightning Thief is finally being added to my TBR. I’ve had the box set for this series since the end of 2016! It’s really time to read these. I know I’ll end up loving them.

The New Kid in Town: The Foxhole Court has a new kid in town. Neil is the newest addition to a school sports team and has lots of secrets. Isabelle loved this series and I’ve been wanting to read it forever!!

Retelling: Rebel Spy is a retelling of the story of Agent 355. A New York society girl that spied for George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Another case of I’ve been wanting to read this since I heard about it. A few friends have been able to read this one already and really enjoyed it.

So those are the common challenges. Then there’s the team book and two extra challenges.

Team Book: As you can see the team book is One to Watch. I’m really excited about this book. This may just be the first book I start out with.

Fake Dating: This is actually one of my favorite tropes! I always love reading as the characters start falling in love. These books normally hit me in all the feels. Fix Her Up is a romantic comedy with fake dating. A friend of mine is a huge fan of this book, so I need to finally give it a chance myself.

Anonymous Messaging: I Kissed Alice sounds like such a cute story! It’s pitched for fans of two books that I love (Fangirl and Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda). A fanfic site and anonymous chatting sounds right up my alley! I’m so excited about this one.
This is my TBR for the Trope-ical Readathon. I can’t wait to read all of these books! If you’ve read any I’d love to hear what you thought. Or if you’re participating, show me your TBR! I’ll update later in the month about my progress.
