Blog Tour| The Boyfriend Blog – K.L.Grayson

As a blogger, I always love when books I read have characters who either blog or love to read. That’s why The Boyfriend Blog caught my attention right away. On top of a character with a blog, the story sounded really cute. What did I think of this story? Keep reading to find out!

Also, a big thanks to the author and Social Butterfly PR for providing me with an ARC to read and review!

The Boyfriend Blog, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by USA Today bestselling author K.L. Grayson.

Boyfriend (n.)

  • A frequent or regular male companion with whom one has a romantic or sexual relationship.
  • A myth. A legend. Impossible to find.

According to her eighty-year-old neighbor, Lizzie Donovan is looking for Mr. Right in all the wrong places. Though it’s made great fodder for her blog, Lizzie is finally tired of swiping left and awful blind dates, and she’s ready to take Mrs. Skinner’s advice and find love the old-fashioned way. Goodbye dating app, hello grocery store, book store, dog park, and wherever else she might be able to meet a good man. And she really has nothing to lose. Not only will she be entertained along the way, but even if she ends up alone, she’ll always have her longtime best friend, Aiden, by her side.

Friend zone (n.)

  • A situation in which a friendship exists between two people, one of whom has an unreciprocated romantic or sexual interest in the other.
  • Location of Aiden Wallace.

According to his eighty-year-old neighbor, Aiden Wallace has been friend zoned. And that’s mostly his fault because instead of opening his eyes and seeing what was right in front of him, Aidan has spent the last several years enjoying the single life. But things have changed—he has changed—and now he needs his best friend, Lizzie, to stop shoving him into the friend zone so he can work at winning her heart. Until then, he’s stuck watching her string of dating disasters and wishing she’d believe him when he tells her he’s the one.

Review

The Boyfriend Blog is the perfect read if you’re looking for a fast and fun read. Our main character Lizzie hasn’t had the greatest luck with dating. She has a blog keeping track of her experiences and this leads to some hilarious moments. Some of her dates in the first few chapters had me laughing out loud. In the end though, this is a friends to lovers story that will make your heart smile.

Lizzie is a fun character. She’s a teacher and love what she does. She wants to date, but it hasn’t been easy for her. What I think I loved about her is that she could laugh about the dates in the end. She wants a relationship, but she isn’t too desperate if that makes any sense. Lizzie is a caring person and lovers her next door neighbor Edna (who was such a fun character to read about).

Aiden is Lizzie’s best friend and definitely the nice guy in many ways, even if he wasn’t always like that. He’s always there for Lizzie when dates go wrong. I love that he designs games as well, that sounds like such an interesting job. What I loved most about Aiden is that he didn’t really hide his feelings for Lizzie. He keeps asking her out from the start. He tries really hard to get her to notice him and definitely takes extreme measures to do so.

Even though I really enjoyed this story, there were a few things that bugged me. It’s clear from the beginning that Aiden and Lizzie will end up together, but for me it happens too soon in the story. I kind of miss the buildup to everything. It’s there, but not enough for me. Because this happens so early on, I felt that there was some drama that just wasn’t needed. This actually made me dislike Lizzie for a bit. I understood her feelings, but I think she was rather dramatic. It felt a bit forced, like some drama was needed with them ending together so early on.

All in all, I really did enjoy their love story and the humor in this book. Their family and neighbor give this book just a bit more fun and I wouldn’t mind reading more about them. I do wish we got a few more blog posts though, because that really was my favorite part of the story. They were really funny and I enjoyed reading them. I will definitely read more from this author in the future!

The Boyfriend Blog

August 29, 2015

Boyfriend wanted: Loyal and funny. Wait…I just described a dog. I should buy a dog.

For real, though, Loyal and funny, that’s easy enough, right?

Wrong!

Do you ever ask yourself why dating in today’s society is so hard? Or where all the good guys are? Or what happened to dating before sex and gasp chivalry?

I wish I had the answers to those questions for you, but I don’t. Unfortunately, I’m scratching my head and wondering the same things you are, which is how I ended up here in the first place.

I never thought I’d be a blogger—especially one who writes about men and dating—and really, I’m not; I’m just a twenty-something girl who got her heart broken for the first time and, while drowning myself in a pint of cookie dough ice cream, thought to myself: Self, how many other girls out there are doing this exact thing? How many of us are loading up on carbs and sugar while mentally berating humans of the penis-wielding variety?

I know I can’t be the only one.

After proposing that same question to my sister, she suggested that I blog about it.

So, whether you’re like me and are swallowing past the bitter first taste of a broken heart, or you’re on your tenth helping and somehow keep finding the courage to go back for more, this blog is for you.

Let me start out by saying you are not alone.

Louder for the sobbing girl in the back: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Sit down, buckle up, and let’s enjoy this crazy ride of bad dating apps and even worse dates together.

P.S. Men suck. And not in a good way.

XOXO, Liz
