Earlier this week, you read our Halloween swap wishlists. On top of the Halloween swap, our friend Kwante, is also hosting a readathon. This one starts on October 13th until October 20th. We couldn’t resist participating, so today we’re sharing our Spook-a-thon TBR! Let’s take a look.
She’s created different prompts to help us choose books for this readathon!
#HauntedMansion : Read a book with a creepy cover or show us your book at a creepy reading spot*!
*Make sure you make it look like a Haunted Mansion
#HocusPocus : Read a book with a paranormal element like: ghosts, vampires, witches, werewolves, etc.
#UrbanLegend : Read a (YA) horror or thriller.
#TheDevilsHour : Read a book after midnight.
#HalloweenCoverHunt : Read a book with a cover that matches Halloween colors (black, orange, red) or has a Halloween theme (pumpkins, skulls, etc.).
#AllHallowsEve: Read a total of 6 books!
Readathons are so much fun and Halloween is the perfect time to pull out the creepy books. My TBR is already packed this month with ARCs and other books, but I’m going to try to read as much as possible for this readathon. Here are the books I hope to read:
#HauntedMansion : I plan on reading Gideon the Ninth during this readathon and this cover is definitely creepy! This isn’t a character I’d want to run into alone at night time. I’ve heard some amazing things about this book. This is an adult book, so I’m expecting it to be more intense than a YA!
#HocusPocus : Isabelle recently read Serpent & Dove and was really impressed. This book has witches, so it’s the perfect read for this Spook-a-thon! It’s a bigger book, but I’m excited to dive in!
#UrbanLegend : Swipe Right for Murder is a YA thriller. We are reading this as a group read in TBR & Beyond. The people I know who read this loved it, so I’m excited to give it a go. Thrillers are something I’m starting to really enjoy, so I know I need to give this one a try!
#TheDevilsHour : The Domina is the last book in the Ascension series and I’m so excited to read this one. Even if I’m sad the series will be finished after this. According to the author this book is around 700 pages long, so I think I’ll be reading this late into the night.
#HalloweenCoverHunt : A friend of ours recently started Five Dark Fates and was telling us how good it is. I’m really hesitant to pick this one up, because I really don’t want it to be over, but after hearing her talk about it, I need to read it! I love the vibe of this cover: black background and all the creepy vibes it gives. Definitely a Halloween cover!
#AllHallowsEve: To finish this list and to meet the goal of six books, I’ll also be reading House of Salt and Sorrows. I’ve heard from a few people that this book is pretty creepy, so I’m excited to find out if that’s the case. Creepy and Halloween go so well together, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
#HauntedMansion : Like Candyce, I also plan on reading Gideon the Ninth! I’m super excited to finally pick this on up. It’s seems to be a pretty polarizing read, people either DNF’d it or loved it to pieces. I really hope we will both love it. The cover is gorgeous and the sequel looks great as well.
#HocusPocus : I think the perfect book for this is Hocus Pocus and the all-new sequel. As probably everyone knows, it features witches. I plan on reading this and then watching the movie after, since I haven’t seen that one yet and it’s finally the right month to do so.
#UrbanLegend : I have been planning on reading this book for the last couple of Octobers but this time I really will! This Is Our Story is a YA mystery, 4 boys go into the woods and only 3 come out. I really like the sound of that premise and this one got a lot of praise of some reviewers I trust!
#TheDevilsHour : For this prompt, I’m picking one I already started. The Beautiful is the new vampire book and I really like it so far. I’m reading the eARC on my phone and only read that right before I’m about to go to sleep, which is usually after midnight haha. So I will continue that for this one.
#HalloweenCoverHunt : Another one I have in common with Candyce, Five Dark Fates. I’m super scared to read this one as is the finale to one of my favorite series. Kendare Blake already proved she can kill off almost any character so I’m expecting heartbreak!
#AllHallowsEve: I’m in a bit of a reading slump, so I’m not sure I will be able to read 6 books. But if I do, I will pick up a manga, The Witch’s House: The Dairy of Ellen. I think this one fits perfectly with the Halloween theme and I’m a bit scared to pick it up haha.
We both can’t wait to start the Spook-a-thon next week! Halloween is a fun time to get in the mysterious books. What is your favorite Halloween book? Let us know in the comments.
