We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Favorite Tropes! My first reaction was oeh fun, but I quickly realized this was going to be harder than I imagined at first haha. What would even be considered a trope? I did some googling first haha. However I did my best and I think I came up with some tropes I personally really enjoy! So let’s take a look.
1.Magical training
I adore any kind of magical training in books. Whether it’s at a school, with some kind of mentor or whatever the author can come up with, I’m all in!
books I enjoyed with this:
2.Enemies-to-lovers
I’m not a big fan of romances in my books, but whenever it’s an enemies-to-lovers kind of romance I’m all in! The banter gives me life and I can’t wait for that moment when they finally kiss!
books I enjoyed with this:
3.Fake relationships
This is probably my favorite romance trope ever! Possibly because I kept wishing this happened to me hahaha. I can’t get enough of these kinds of books but also feel like I haven’t read nearly enough of them.
books I enjoyed with this:
4.Prophecies
This is a pretty popular trope in fantasy novels and I really enjoy it. It can be used in a really easy way, but I especially love it when it’s done really well or if it’s turned on its head.
books I enjoyed with this:
5.Found family
I love a focus on friendships in books and when that friend group turns into a found family there’s nothing better. It’s so wonderful seeing everyone care for each other and there are usually quite some different kinds of characters.
books I enjoyed with this:
6.Ragtag group of misfits
Now this one goes with the previous one a lot of the times I come across it. So we get a ragtag found family group of misfits haha. Nevertheless, this is another trope I just can’t get enough off.
books I enjoyed with this:
7.Magical competition
This might be my favorite trope out of all of them! Give me allll the magical competitions every day of the week. Especially when our main character is a bit of an underdog but makes it to the finale anyway.
books I enjoyed with this:
8.Friends or lovers on opposite sides of a war
I came across this one and immediately loved the idea. But I have to admit, I’m struggling to remember books I read with this trope. So if you have any recommendations, let me know!
books I enjoyed with this:
9.Best friends-to-lovers
This is another super cute trope, especially when they’re neighbors or childhood best friends. And when they’re both oblivious to this fact but we can see it from a mile away, yes please! One of the cutest books I ever read even combines this with my other favorite, fake relationships <3
books I enjoyed with this:
10.Quest or heist
I know this is a very common trope, but I will forever read books with quests and heist! It’s just so much fun to see a plan and then usually see a totally different outcome. Give me all the genius characters that plan for all the contingencies.
books I enjoyed with this:
This was such a fun TTT to make! What are some of your favorite tropes? Come talk to me in the comments!
I’m mad at myself for not putting found family! Magical training is such a good one! Never thought of that! One of my faves for sure!
Haha I honestly had to google for a bit because I couldn’t think of anything at first!! But magical training is just the best <3
Me, too! I didn’t even think of it and I love that one so much.
I agree with so many of these. When Julian and Emma decided to become parabatai, I was like “NOOOOOO!!!!” I like your recommendations. I got Daughter of Smoke and Bone when it was on sale on Amazon… maybe I’ll have to move it up on my TBR.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is so amazing! Highly recommend it. And agreed on the whole Emma & Julian thing haha.
Ooh prophecies- good one. I hadn’t thought of that but a good prophecy is awesome! I love magical training also. And a god quest always gets my interest. 🙂

I know a lot of people are tired of prophecies but I still enjoy them! And I don’t think I’ll ever tire of magical training <3 magical schools are my favorite setting after all
Oh, magical training stories are so much fun! I can’t get enough of them.

The ragtag group of misfits is the main reason I read fantasy! Hahaha. Love it when all the outcasts save the world.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Ah this is such a great list, I can only agree wholeheartedly with every single one! I also love enemies to lovers, fake relationships and found families, but I’m also a sucker for magical training and heists 🙂
I can’t resist magical training, a ragtag bunch of misfits, and heists! 🙂
Lauren @ Always Me
Yes to all of these tropes!! Magical training, found family, fake relationships and prophecies REALLY get me. In all honesty, all of these are on brand for my taste so to spare you of me just repeating everything back at you, I’m just going to say I agree with the whole post haha
I love all of these <3 But Enemies to Lovers is my favorite <3 Great list 😀
