Bookish Item | 19 before 2019, Did I Read Them?

Last year I did a post about 19 books I wanted to read before 2019. Since we’re about 20 weeks out from 2020, I thought it would be fun to do a 20 before 2020. However, it seems fitting to first take a look at the books I wanted to read before 2019. Did I end up reading them all? Do you want to place any bets? Let’s take a look at that list!

1. Kingdom of Ash – Sarah J. Maas
Read in 2018

I read this one as soon as it came out and it was one of my favorite books of 2018. The Throne of Glass series will forever be one of my favorite series. It’s my favorite Sarah J. Maas series and I love the conclusion she wrote to this series.

2. Two Dark Reigns – Kendare Blake
Read in 2018

A lot of people think the Three Dark Crowns books are quite slow but I adore them a lot! So this is another one I read right away. And I can’t wait for the next book to be released.

3. Wildcard – Marie Lu
Unread

I was pleasantly surprised by Warcross after I bought solely because of that gorgeous naked hardback. However I heard a lot of mixed things about Wildcard and I haven’t been able to pick it up yet. I do hope to do so soon!

4. The Caged Queen – Kristen Ciccarrelli
Unread

I feel pretty bad about this one as Kristen is one of the kindest and sweetest authors I have ever met! And I really enjoyed the first book. But this one has another main character and that’s always a little disappointing to me.

5. Vengeful – V.E. Schwab
Unread

Another one I feel really bad about! I did start reading it and really loved the first chapters but put it down in favor of something else. I really do plan on reading it soon because I love V.E. Schwab and can’t stand having an unread book of hers on my shelves.

6. Fables. vol 2 – Bill Willingham
Read in 2019

I did read this one this year! And I got the sequel around that time as well and have read it  already. I hope to get more of this series soon as I have quite some issues to get caught up on.

7. Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi
Read in 2018

It took me a while to finish this one and ended up listening to the audiobook. Which was very enjoyable, and helped with some words I would have a lot of trouble pronouncing myself.

8. To Kill a Kingdom – Alexandra Christo
Read in 2018

Another enjoyable read. Not the best book I ever read, but it had a lot of fun elements I would like to read more of!

9. A Reaper at the Gates – Sabaa Tahir
Unread

I really enjoyed the first two books but I’m afraid to pick this one up haha. There’s a very real possibility I forgot a lot of important details. And I’ve heard some really mixed things about it, might wait until we’re a little closer to the release of book 4.

10. The Defiant – Lesley Livingston
Read in 2019

Finally picked this up in a buddy read earlier this year and enjoyed it a lot! I really want to read the last book but I read the first two in Dutch and the publisher decided against publishing the last book.

11. Hunting Prince Dracula – Kerri Maniscalco
Read in 2018

I enjoyed this one more than I did the first one! Book 3 is already on my shelves and I actually preordered the last one haha.

12. Legendary – Stephanie Garber
Unread

It was my plan to read it at least before the release of Finale…. And I failed haha. I do hope to read both of them this year, I wasn’t a fan of Caraval but hear nothing but praise for Legendary and Finale.

13. Night Film – Marisha Pessl
Read in 2018

What a disappointing read this was! It was actually one of my least liked books I read last year. But I did manage to read it haha.

14. Daughter of the Siren Queen – Tricia Levenseller
Unread

I really should get on this one! It’s also a very easy way to finish a series haha. These books have some really cool elements and I’ve heard a lot of good things about this conclusion to the duology.

15. A Closed and Common Orbit – Becky Chambers
Unread

I recently got the third book in this series and read an earc of Becky’s new novella. Whenever I’m in a scifi mood I really hope I pick up this one!

16. Nevermoor – Jessica Townsend
Read in 2019

Why did I wait so long? I love this book so much, it’s one of my new favorites and I immediately read the second book. The third book is one of my most anticipated releases for 2020.

17. Reign of the Fallen – Sarah Glenn Marsh
Read in 2019

I had started reading this one ages ago! But I finally did read it and enjoyed it a lot. I’m not in a hurry to read the sequel though.

18. Wonder Woman: Warbringer – Leigh Bardugo
Read in 2018

Another disappointment. I love Leigh Bardugo and really like Wonder Woman, but this combination didn’t work for me unfortunately.

19. The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
Unread

I’m scared to admit I still haven’t read this one yet! Hopefully this year!

Read in 2018:  7/19 – 37%
Read in 2019: 4/19 – 21%
Unread:  8/19 – 42%

So I ended up reading 58% off the books I wanted to read, although I only 37% in 2018 as I had planned haha. This doesn’t bode well for my 20 before 2020 and I plan on picking books I really, really, really want to read this. Do you set goals like this for yourself? Have any recommendations I should put on my 20 before 2020? Let me know down below!
