Mini Reviews | Ghosts of the Shadow Market #7-#8 – Cassandra Clare

Yesterday I shared my reviews of the 4th, 5th and 6th novella’s in the Ghosts of the Shadow Market anthology. Today I want to talk about story #7 and #8. We won’t get the last two stories until the physical copy of the bindup is released. Both these stories take place during Lady Midnight and the events are mentioned there as well. There are some spoilers for all the books leading up to Lady Midnight, so continue only if you’re all caught up.

The Land I Lost – Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan

I absolutely loved this longer novella. We follow Alec on a mission to Buenos Aires and get to see so many beloved characters. There were so many Malec feels, but Jace had some great moments as well! I loved reading more about Max, Magnus and Alec’s son. He is so cute and adorable and I can’t wait to see more of him. Whenever I see his name, all the feels over the original Max’s death come rushing back, but I love that tribute. Lily accompanies Alec on this mission and we get to know her a little better as well. I have come to really appreciate her, she brings a lot of fun but knowing her background. really fleshed out her character.

“Anyone who says women are weak is afraid they’re too strong.”

Another new character we meet is Raphael, and that name alone gives me the feels 😉 He was really important to the story and I loved all that he brought. Over this was a really good story, and it actually added something. It was so interesting to see the effects of the Dark War in other institutes and how lucky the Shadowhunters and Downworlders in New York were. This novella is truly one of my favorites. The audiobook is narrated by Melissa Fumero, and she did a great job. It took me a second to realize were I knew her name from, but obviously she’s from Brooklyn Nine-Nine! Long story short, this was an amazing novella and I can’t wait for the Malec series, The Eldest Curses, just 4 more months of waiting!

“If my words comforted you, we are even,” he said. “Your voice is the music I love best in all the world.”

Through Blood, Through Fire – Cassandra Clare & Robin Wasserman

The reason I started listening to these novellas again was this one actually! I saw that is was narrated by Candice King on her Instagram and I knew I wanted to listen to it immediately. But that meant I had to read the other ones first! And so I did. Candice did a great job with this novella, as did Cassandra and Robin 😉 I highly enjoyed this one, it’s another one of my favorites. We follow Jem and Tessa in this novella while they are on the trail of the Lost Herondale. The search comes to a close and since I hadn’t finished Lady Midnight yet I was a real surprise.

“No one is ever lost to himself.”

I loved reading about Jack and Rosemary after meeting them in The Wicked Ones. Rosemary is such an incredible character and her story was bittersweet. It really broke my heart! Obviously I also loved Jem and Tessa and the ending of the novella was simply jaw dropping. I was shouting OMG OMG OMG out loud and was so mad I had no one to talk about it yet haha. Melissa is making her way through the novellas so I can finally discuss that ending with her soon, thankfully. Another wonderful novella and I can not wait until I read Queen of Air and Darkness!

“Growing up unafraid of the world is a good way to get destroyed by it”

Have you read any of these novellas? And The Dark Artifices series? Did you start Queen of Air and Darkness yet? Let me know in the comments!
