Blog Tour| Getting Schooled – Emma Chase

Emma Chase is an author that I have had my eye on for awhile, but have never gotten around to reading anything. Then I heard about her new release Getting Schooled. I have been really interested in Contemporary Romances lately, so this was just what I needed. If you want to know if it met my expectations, keep on reading to find out.

Head of the class…

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy — he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school…

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she’d prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.

Just like old times…

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled — hard — by love.

Review

Cover Getting Schooled has a typical romance cover, but the model isn’t a bad one to look at, haha.

Plot When I saw the cover and even read the sypnosis, Getting Schooled seemed like a typical romance. I was so wrong! This book was so much more. When Callie goes home after her parents are injured, the last thing she expects is running in to her high school love. Garrett was a big part of her life and it was the distance that did them in. Garrett wasn’t expecting to become a teacher, but when a knee injury ruins his chance at a professional career, he becomes a teacher. He loves his job and his world and the last thing he expects is seeing Callie walk into his school. Of course this book is about Callie and Garrett and their feelings for each other, but their teaching lives are involved as well. I loved how we read about the students and how they responded to them, but also how much the students meant to Callie and Garrett as well. They were really passionate about teaching and the students finding their way, I was really impressed. A lot of romance books don’t add stuff like that. There is a lot of humor in this book and I love the references to different things (Hunger Games, Inside Out, Grey’s Anatomy, Cards Against Humanity). This brought a smile to my face. On the other side, this book is very emotional and certain events had me crying in the train while I was reading. This book has everything I needed, romance, humor and characters you can’t help but love. This was my first Emma Chase book, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Characters Callie has a good life going for herself in California and she just got her dream job when she is called back home to her parents. She never planned on sticking around that long, but when it seems her parents are going to need some extra help for awhile, a teaching job comes down her path. She is a theater geek and loves everything about it. Teaching is a bit more difficult than she expected, but it surprises her when she really starts caring for these children. Another surprising factor is Garrett and how easily the feelings resurface. It’s fun seeing her find her way while teaching and really think about how she feels. Callie is a very lovable character.

Garrett seemed like he was going to be pretty arrogant (this is what I thought while reading the first chapter), but he wasn’t in a bad way. He knows what he loves and what he wants. Even though his career didn’t turn out the way he wanted, he still found something he loves. These are his kids and he wants them to make it. He is very dedicated. I loved reading about what he thought of his classes and students or how hard he took it when a student wasn’t doing well. As a romantic partner for Callie he was very funny and sweet. Definitely a good book boyfriend. Willing to just see how life goes to keep the love of your life is a big thing when everything else you lvoe may be somewhere else.

After reading Getting Schooled, I think I found another author I want to read more from. If her other books are just as good as this, I will be hooke fast. Have any of you read any Emma Chase books? What did yout think?
